I'm in the garage pulling the heads on the 6.9. Can I take them out with the exhaust manifolds on? Seems it would be faster. I have a shop crane so weight is no issue. Just wondering about clearance. Thanks

I think I did way back, just couldn't go back in the same way w/o bumping gaskets. I didn't need picker back then, more braun than brains at the time. Never again.

Yes you can do this. You can also put the heads back with the manifolds attached and not damage the head gasket. I've done it many times and never used anything but my hands. Do I want to try it again 20 years later? NO WAY!

Thanks guys. Just seems easier to take out 4 bolts compared to 16. My exhaust connector bolts weren't rusted so I figured I'd go that route.. Going to pull the heads Friday.
