The day they outlaw fuel engines will be a saaaaaaad saaaaaaad day.
Here's something that these "genuis" people who talk about banning internal combustion engines don't think about (or at least they don't mention it so we won't think about it). The biggest problem that I can see with electric vehicles is the supply and demand of the "fuel" (electricity). There's already enough problems with getting enough electricity in high population density areas. Assuming that banning fossil fuel powered power plants goes hand in hand with banning fossil fuel powered vehicles, Where is all of this extra electricity going to be coming from? Solar doesn't work at night, and it doesn't work as well when it's cloudy compared to when it's sunny. Wind power doesn't work unless the wind is blowing. How many of us ONLY go to a gas station on a sunny day while the wind is blowing? Another thing is that under normal situations, it takes, what, 10-15 minutes to fill your tank at a gas station? And that's if you have to go inside to use the bathroom or something like that? How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle? MUCH longer than that. What is the range of an electric vehicle? 200-300 miles? I really don't have an idea on that number so I'm throwing out guesses here. So, on a long trip, you drive 300 miles and then have to wait for how long before you can drive again? And then that's with ideal conditions. You drive your IDI powered truck until it gets low on fuel, take 10 minutes to fill it back up, and then you're back on the road again. Your only limits to driving that truck are yourself and possibly having trouble finding an open gas station (plastic cards don't work everywhere). Then, let's just say that, for some reason, you're pulling a load. Sure, your IDI powered truck will get less mileage and you'll have to stop more often at a gas station. Your electric truck will also get worse mileage while it's pulling the same load. Now how far does it go? 100 miles? 200 miles? Then only to have to stop for who knows how long to wait for it to charge back up again. All of the charging time is also assuming that you'll just be able to pull right up to a charging station and plug in. What if there's a lot of traffic and you have to wait for 2 or 3 others to get done before you can charge yours up? NONE of this sounds like a good prospect to me in any way, shape, or form. I'm not against electric vehicles, but I do feel that the applications are extremely limited. You live in a big city? Never go very far outside of that city? Have plenty of time to wait for your vehicle to charge? Then electric is fine for you. If you're a normal person that doesn't fit into this very small, very limited category, then you'd better stick to your old, polluting, ready to use right now, fossil fuel powered vehicles!
I may have some strong feelings about eliminating fossil fuel powered vehicles in case anybody's wondering.LOL

Agreed! Fix it. Learn it. Trust it and yourself. Screw the dealerships and all the crap they sell that is designed to break down. It won't be the mechanical stuff the breaks the bank. It'll be the electronic controls that, after 10 years, you won't be able to get parts for.

Somehow I lost my oil filler cap yesterday, so I took an old spare that had its top busted off and made my own cap:

I figured it was a good use of my old Wicked Wheel 2:joker:

Im being forced back in a corner and I refuse to run in another circle. This truck is past its due date, so using what I have on hand. Grabed a burr and ported the yoke so the u-joint will fit, yes I know I chance vibrations but no choice.
I told this drive shaft shop many times that this yoke takes a 1/16 smaller cap than the rear but no, I get the same front and rear.
:frustrate:bail

I'll stick to my old old trucks until I'm forced to drive an electric vehicle.

Here's hoping that's not sooner than later.

So will be the day I become a outlaw runing both my truck off alternative fuels. They would also have to ban deep fryed food to keep me from wvo or wood to keep me from methanol for example.

That's what I've been saying for years when asked why I don't buy something newer (just need to soundproof the cab better so I can still hear by the time it happens).

That day is on the way; Unlimited money is being thrown into EV startups, hydrogen tech and solar companies right now. Hell, the last couple issues of "Diesel Progress" I've read had some Tier 5 diesel emissions stuff, but were mostly about electric and hydrogen fuel tech.

Me? I'll just barely be getting out of the stone age if I can finish my ZF5 install this weekend.

You guys know they still have horses around? People said they would get rid of them and horse carriages in Henry fords day... sure they are more novelty than practicality, but worse case scenario that’s what becomes of the infernal combustion engines. For practicality, the electric motor tech is still far far behind the diesels today.

Another thing occurred to me. Despite the shortcomings of the EV technology, "they" could try to price fossil fuels so high that most people couldn't afford it. Look at what happened when Obummer was in office. Anybody remember the ridiculously priced fuel? He also had a guy (actually an idiot [to keep it forum friendly]) in his cabinet (I can't remember his name or his job title) who was saying that he'd be happy if gasoline got to $10 per gallon just people would drive less. These types of people seem like they'll do anything to prevent us from using our fossil fueled vehicles. How about "The Green New Deal" first proposed by AOCrackhead? Despite the fact that it's completely unrealistic, EVERY Democratic Presidential candidate said that they'd support it a year or less ago. How about the guy who is supposed to be the President elect? Will he keep going along with it? His running mate sure had no issues agreeing with it either. And she's FAR from being moderate or reasonable!
