What oil do you use?

The funny thing is,this only happened on one of my trucks,and the other truck doesn't use a drop of oil.I don't know what to think,and it's driving me crazy.I have always used shell rotella in all my equipment,and I would really hate to switch to another brand.

I use Mobil Delvac - good enough, and cheaper than most, when they have a rebate.

Another vote for Delvac 15w-40. Usually in stock. . .unless they have a great sale--I always find out a bit too late it seems.

I'm not finding that Valvoline Premium Blue 15W-40 on the <a href=https://parts.ford.com/content/dam/...iesel_Motor_Oils_Meeting_Ford_WSSM2c171F1.pdf>Ford approved oils list</a>. That list is for their 6.7L engine, but oils on that list still meet the old CJ-4 spec in the old way, apparently. There are several Valvoline oils on that list, just not this one.

I usually use Rotella T4 in the summer, T6 5w-40 in the winter. I used to use the T6 in my gas cars too, but then I started finding the Mobile 1 5W-30 on sale. Most of my trucks burn so much oil that I can't really tell if it's better when I switch to something else. My '87 and the '94 with the old engine would burn a quart in 25 miles no matter what brand it was. Two round trips to Fairbanks changed out all the oil!

So at work we have jugs of Renewable Lubricants Biosynthetic oil. I just tried it out on my truck a few weeks back. I've heard good things about it from the other guys who do most of the maintenance on the fuel trucks and other diesel rigs. I use this companies injector cleaner as well and have noticed a difference there. After about 2 months of throwing it in when fueling I noticed an increase in mpg by about 1.5. Their oil is expensive and if I had to pay for it I probably wouldn't be able to afford it :sly

I'm another odd man out that has had good luck with Rotella both the conventional 15W40 and synthetic 5W40. Ive also used the Motorcraft oil with good results.

Motul 5w40 xcess. I switched to 100% synthetic after getting a job that required a 5-10min daily commute. My hope is to reduce the wear and tear that comes with so many miles in the warmup cycle. Even then I still feel bad to be using an IDI like this.

I also used to run Dino Rotella for longer highway runs and the truck had a tremendous appetite for it. However, that was mostly due to leaky valve stem seals and it didn't seem to care what I fed it. After rebuilding the engine with overhauled heads, I can't even detect consumption between oil changes.

I never did try T6 but it might be worth a shot.

Chevron delo 15w-40. I’ve found it to be readily available on road trips in most places.

I’m burning through like a quart every 500-700 miles possibly less than that. This could be a whole host of issues so idk how great of a gauge burning oil is.

Look at the API rating. American Petroleum Institute has standards that, like grades of meat and eggs, pretty much tell if the oil is any good. Very few companies refine their oils. Regardless of the brand name.
If it has an SN Plus rating, it's the best grade. I used to be a brand name snob. Now, I buy Kirkland 15-40. Costco. It's WAY cheaper than the brand name oils. But, if you will rest easier with a brand name, go for it.

I tried delo once and my oil consumption tripled. You might want to try another brand to see if it helps with your oil consumption.

I ordered 2 jugs so I can do my RV's oil change in a few months and have lots left over for top-offs. I run the FL1995 since it plenty well fits, so it needs 2.75 gallon (11qts). If I had a brand new rebuilt engine, maybe I'd care more about staying with a specific brand but this thing is the original 35 year old motor. As long as it has fresh'ish 15w40 kept above the add line, I doubt it matters much. I drag a small enclosed cargo trailer behind it now, so I have plenty of room for such excess cargo.
