I'll bet your wife was happy about that tire inside the house.LOL
Haha she was fine with 1, when I rolled the second one in (rim installed), she said really you need all the tires in the house!? And I quickly had to move the first tire back out to the shop. [emoji23]

BTW i can confirm a head bolted 7.3 can handle 20 psi.

Okay, here comes the fun stuff. Disassembled and head studs installed. Flywheel, clutch, and the lack of any sludge in the valve train.

Any wisdom is appreciated. Ex. What else should I replace while motor is out, etc.

Another piece of evidence that this is an 87,000 mi motor is the crosshatching on the cylinder walls. Though the RH rearmost piston has some scaring on the head of the piston but no scoring on the cylinder walls whatsoever. Advice on replace or use? Structural integrity compromised?

This is the only cylinder with markings^

Looks like that cylinder ate a glow plug.

I'd check the valves and heads in general really well. Never a bad idea to replace the front and rear main seals. Easier to do with the engine on a stand than in the truck. Same is true for the oil cooler.

That is what me and my dad were thinking. But the heads show no damage and all valves hold soapy water. I’ll do a pop test before installing.

And yes I have the front and rear seals that’s a must. Then I will reseal the oil pan as well. [emoji1419]

i would reseal front cover and put a new water pump on.
not a fan of using worm clamps on plastic nipples
also, get 7.3 rockers

First off: I may be wrong here. There's the disclaimer. I have to disagree with this. When I enlarged the picture, the "markings" don't look like they're indentions. They look like they're raised. I'm going to guess that they are some type of carbon build up and that you can scrape them off (gently) and you'll find that there's not any damage to your pistons.

and im going to have to disagree with the both of ya :fart

those markings are WAY too uniform to be carbon,
and not the damage ive seen due to a lost glow plug tip.

i will place a friendly wager that there was a 1/4-20 nut that got in there.:cheers:

Would that have been able to get through the valves? There's no scarring on the cylinder wall and it doesn't look like there's much if any damage on the bottom of the head.

anything is possible but it sure does look like a nut of some sort to me.
maybe a glow plug controller trigger wire nut?
just has an odd pattern for me to call it carbon

Also it was odd that this cylinder is shiny and the others are covered in soot. [emoji2375]
