Sorry, forgot no lockup on the 1stgen diesels.

I'm thinking more the gov spring stretching/fatiguing over 25-30 years. I have seen the fuel pin follower (action rod?) get gummed up and stick. Then its like you lost your turbo altogether because there's no additional fuel.

3-4 speed automatics are pretty sluggish with 160hp diesels. Doesn't much matter if GM, Dodge or Ford. 4.10 would pull better, but you lose some top speed.

I feel the governor spring wouldn't lose it's tension just sitting there. I would like to swap out the fuel pin, and spring after getting it back to the normal like it was. Not wanting to toss another variable into the mix if that sounds like a good path to go.

The fuel is very old. When I bought this back in 2007 there was green algae in the separator/filter. I got 2 Carquest yesterday from Advanced, and another one from Amazon coming by 10pm tonight o_O

Went to Wally World and got a quart of Power service Clear Diesel fuel and tank cleaner. And an 80oz jug of Diesel Kleen too. First thing tomorrow is top of the tank. Maybe drive to Pilot as they are the highest volume sellers of diesel in my area.

I was actually okay with the way it accelerated back in the day. The Hungry Diesel parts should really wake it up. I am also going to do the 1/8" timing bump.

Talking to my brother tonight. He used to own a 26' dive boat with a 300hp 3208 Cat V8. He forgot what he used to fight algae it was 20 years ago.

Talked to my buddy that had a 2006 he ran as a Hotshot for a while. He told me when he first bought it when it got to a half of a tank it would fall on it's face. Topped it off it would go back to normal.

Looked at "Fuel Right." $36 for 6oz is crazy! If it works fine. I have a gallon of Howes in the shop too. I don't think it will clean the tank.

Biobor is what we use at work.

Clean filters are your main thing. Providing you don't have a choked line. Adding too much of some chemical that immediately loosens a bunch of tank-crap that jams up the works.... now you have more work to do. Proceed with cuation. Much modern fuel has a small % of bio in it anyway (around here anyway)... which tends to loosen things up regardless.

That full/part tank difference... sounds like a pickup tube with (rust?) holes in it.

I fuel the company rig at Loves. I'm not seeing anything about it having any bio in it. I ran B20 in this truck back in 2008. Mileage went from 21.7 to 17.5. B20 smelled better, but cost a bunch more.

I'm a former fuel hauler. I used to run a straight load of diesel to Hess. Then go to Owensboro Grain and pick up a load of B100. Soybean oil. They heated that stuff to load it.

Most of our local fuel has a "may contain up 5% bio" disclaimer", and no price difference. All claimed to be ULSD, but some is clear and odorless, and other stuff looks greenish and smells like classic diesel.

I don't log mileage anymore. I just know my truck does big-block type work without the big-block fuel bill. :Thumbs Up

Does it rev up like normal? Does it smoke?
Does it create boost?

No boost gauge. Smoke? Nope.

It's a slow rolling pig. Won't spin the tires in the grass.

Have you checked the intercooler boots for a leak?

My other suggestion is the fuel pin/guide pin is stuck in the bore. I'd pull the top of the AFC off and pull out the diaphragm out with the fuel pin (mark the diaphragm before you pull it out) If you look down the bore you will see a pin. It rides against the fuel pin. My guess is its stuck in the bore and not moving. It should move when you put your foot on the throttle pedal pedal.

It would take a couple minutes to check. All you need is a metric allen wrench to remove the top of the afc.

Okay. Is it to my left facing the engine?

If it is stuck, use WD-40 or other type stuff to free it?

It faces towards the front of the truck. Here is a write up about someone repairing the fuel pin leak (also called guide pin) My fuel pin was leaking a couple months ago so I had to tear the top of my pump apart to replace the little o ring. This was a couple years after my 3200rpm governor spring install.

I'd probably put a little dab of diesel on it and see if it frees up.

Thanks!!

Another DEEEZIL forum! I joined there.

It would be really nice to have a heated garage right now. Being these 1st Gens are largely ignored now a days I need all the resources I can get.

Yeah a lot of people tend to destroy them for swaps. I bought one wrecked for my swap.

If the guide pin is stuck you may not be able to pull the fuel pin up and out. I suspect due to it sitting that it is gummed up/stuck.

I topped the tank off with 20gal, 20oz of Power Service . Drove it 10mi. Got home and smelled brakes. Passenger side caliper is hanging up.

Not blowing any black smoke. Set the mirror to watch. None.

That's a scary amount of additive.

Time to unstick that action rod. That's the part that delivers the fuel (smoke) to spool the turbo.
