IDI! Even an na 7.3 will make that power with just a few modifications, you build an idit youll already have a turbo kit to start with and can reliably run more power than the na 7.3. Studs, turbo upgrade, 110 or 130 pump and youll be there with a 7.3 IDI. Price out the parts just to swap the cummins youll be spending more than those parts alone just to get the engine in there.

My idi already has a hypermax turbo kit on it what turbo wwould be good to use in that up range for the idi

I do like the 7.3 with all its extra cubes. So what would it take to get the idi in that hp range. Would I be able to make 400-450 with the same amount of work or is that starting to get into the unreliable territory for the idi

A bigger pump, turbo, head studs, and maybe injectors will get it to the 300-325 range. Wes says that he's had a few engines come apart in the 350-400 range with the N/A rods. To be safe, I'd try to keep it in the 325 or less range with N/A rods. Even 300 HP is huge compared to stock.

300hp is literally more than a 50% increase in power isn't it? Stock being 185ish.

As far as the DT I know @subway put a DT360 in his F350. There's a thread on it somewhere in here.

The only ways I can see it be possible is with a very large body lift so the fan would not be sticking out the hood. Or a custom mount that mounts a pulley between the water pump and crank pulley that the fan attached to. Problem is there seems to not be very much room for a pulley between there so a custom water pump and crank pulley would have to be made smaller in size. A really small pulley could work but the fan would be spinning some crazy rpm

Cummins swaps in my personal opinion are just over done, if you don't stick with the idi then a ford/New Holland 6.6 from an 80's medium duty truck is a good option with plenty of torque also a c7 cat is a really good option if you get one that is pre emissions and can be found reasonably priced.

Well, adding it up it seems it would cost around 8300 to build the idi the way I want it. It would be about 9000 to get the cummins in with all the conversion parts and performance parts including cost of engine so the price difference is not very big
