"We are putting the IDI on the floor this weekend hope to have the adapter shortly!"

Last I checked this was in the $10 to $12K range. A bit spendy for my blood currently.
Another week or so and something might transpire.

An Allison transmission that's suited for a medium truck would be really cool, but the transfer case, drive lines and axles are still going to be weak spots. If we're not trying to turn a pickup into a medium truck, just doing it to get rid of the e4od, is that really worth so much? A rebuild e40d costs about 3 grand up here where everything is high priced, and should last many years of not being abused.

Noisy, give us a link?

is the link.
Like has been said, $12K is a whole bunch of money. It does however eliminate the desire for 2 more gears to get it down the road. With the 4:10 rear end I believe it is pulling about 1800 RPM at 67 MPH.
So keeping up with the more powerful engines out there is much easier to do. Is it worth $12K? That answer only you can give. 2 days ago I just dumped$1,000 for all the bells and whistles on a read disc brake conversion kit from 4X4Lugnut. Ceramic, slotted, spacers, park-brake whatever.
Yeah, she is still in orbit on that one.
However, combined with hyrdro, that truck should be able to lock up brakes. That currently beats the pucker factor which I had once already.

My E4OD is rebuilt (about 2,000 miles) and I am impressed with the lack of gearing. The OD drops in at 35 MPH and it bogs.
A turbo forces air into an engine. Forcing the piston down. Increases cylinder wear.
Bigger turbo is more wear and bigger injectors is more fuel wash.
Currently the exhaust has been reworked and now the thought of better gearing is tempting.
$12K worth?

Does that 12k include everything and the install work? If so, then it's a pretty good deal. If it's just the adaptor, wiring harness, and allison ecu, with you having to source the transmission and the labor, I'd say there are better options.

If you're e40d is shifting into OD that early, it sounds like there is a problem with the fipl out of adjustment or the computer getting accurate throttle input.

I have been told 10-12K is the kit. Then you get the install, fluid and drive line mod. I thought about another truck routine and that brings in newer machines with more ECU's. etc.
Currently I like the OD lock out switch. Turn it on about 50 MPH.

Sitting here laughing my ass of at this one.
How many miles do you think they are really going to go before a regular overhaul.?

If things are matched correctly this is a non issue.

I just ran down to Tok in my '89 crewcab. Two hours at 60mph, 2200rpm, then we got some hamburgers and came home. It really would be nice to have another gear.

Could you make that better with a different controller? Maybe just use the little button on the end of the shift lever to turn off the OD when you aren't ready for it?

I chased a Duramax down the road, him pulling a 25/30' camper trailer and I was carrying my slide in camper. running around 75 MPH and he was not having much issue getting away from me. Looking at the spec sheet, he had a tad bit more power to start with. The Allison gearing should get that 75 MPH at around 1970 RPM per the caconversions calculator. Long ago it was said there is "No replacement for displacement" and "Gears for Go".
I have to put in a swim spa for her before I look at "Gears for Go".

Well, he did have the emblems on the hood stating "Duramax". A quick look at the spec sheet on those shows an increasing HP amount over the years to current production. Where as it is possible to increase the HP output of a 7.3 idiT to a higher number, the need for gears is still a factor. The wife is currently backing out of her Swim Spa at a $15-$20K price tag and that may negate the Alison on my part for the time being.
I am currently waiting to hear from the company regarding the final cost.
You can have all the power in the world you desire. Without gears, your going no where.

Yes it does. However a Rblt Allison is around $3K from a fast check. That gives another $9K for the rest of it.
A bit fat for my desires.
