Just joined the other day after using some posts on the site for research on some of the problems on my 'new to me' truck. It is a 1990 F250 with the 7.3 idi. It was purchased by my father used a couple of decades ago to be used for pulling trailers when needed. After he bought a newer Ford, he gave it to my brother who was needing another vehicle at the time. After my brother got another vehicle, he let it set without much use for several years before he gave it to me.
When I got it, it would run, but had a terrible vibration from idle to about 2000 rpms. Research on this site led me to realize it had air in the lines and I have been working on that.
The odometer shows about 6000 miles now, but we figure the old truck has at least 300,000 and possibly 400,000. Dad was not sure exactly how many miles were on it when he got it, but knew it was over 100,000 to start with. He thinks it was probably over 200,000 though. Since he has had it, he has had the injector pump and the transmission rebuilt.
I am honestly surprised it has lasted this long since dad had no idea about the cavitation issue with this engine and has never checked the coolant for the SCA levels. I will need to address this soon and do a full coolant flush to get it right.
Sorry for the long post, I am just excited about getting this old truck. She isn't pretty, but I hope she will be dependable.
