Any thoughts on these ? There's one going for cheap on ebay. If I could find a pulse setup for sale I would buy it, but not a chance. I think these are obsolete, and also the lumi probe that comes with it is for an oldsmobile. I have a lumi probe from the fox valley setup I bought a long time ago, so that might work with this. Should I pass or what?

I recently bought one of those myself. Before you buy it make sure it comes with all the accessories. The mt88a is the handle that connects the thread on probe to the machine, mt160 and mt161 are the two probes that thread into the head. One thing to keep in mind is they are also obsolete so getting replacement parts can be difficult if something breaks.

I have a search open on eBay for the Snap On MT257 and I see one every month or two. Also the Mac ET18DPM is the same thing, I have one of them. I have a Snap On Lumy Probe set up but lacking a couple parts so never got too serious about it.

The IH manual calls for using a machine that is currently available. I'll edit this later with a link to the machine.

Design Technology Inc Tech-Time 3300-s, still available on fleabay for $229. I think it's the same unit the IH manual calls for.

you mean a kent moore J 33300? Seen one for sale for around $400. Can't spring for something like that right now.

Myself and many others use the kent moore j33300 meters. Just make sure you get all the pieces. Just the magnetic probe will cost nearly $400.00 to replace.

I think I have a snap on MT480. I think it works fine. It's the snap on timing adapter that connects to the fuel line? If so it's worked fine for me. Just make sure you put the plug wire clamp on the right direction for the snap-on meter. One way I didn't get signal.

That’s a MT257. Much simpler than the MT480. The 480 uses a luminousity probe in the glow plug hole to “see” the combustion. And a magnetic pickup for the timing reference.

The military surplus units come up sometimes and work just fine. Parts are available for them too. I think the line clamp was $75??
