Only shows 1 in my '85 Factory Manual but all where serviced at same dealer. Maybe a dealer thing:dunno
Manual shows double of same size on throttle return.
Just an artist conception tho, not a photo

I think the C6 trucks may have had the double smaller spring in that location, because that's how the IP on my 91 was setup, but @IDIBRONCO has seen way more of them than me!

My 90 has the correct IP and the double return spring goes down towards the high idle solenoid IIRC, truthfully, who knows who has changed what on trucks this old!

@Haulinhorse if the tag on the door jamb doesn't match your VIN there's no need to take a picture because if the CAB has been swapped out it won't be correct for your truck anyway unfortunately.

I'm still going to bet it's a C6 and that's why you only have a 3 speed auto and no overdrive. I saw the newer front end and "assumed" and we all know where that gets us!

it's dark here and there are things in the woods

I know what you mean. I was outside a few minutes ago and heard howling. I'm hoping it's local dogs, but I've heard there's coyotes out here, so it always makes me slightly nervous when I hear howling in the dark....

From what I've seen, the throttle return is supposed to have a double spring and it does connect to the lower part of the fast idle solenoid mounting bracket. If one came into our shop with either one spring or being connected to a different spot, I made sure that it was "correct" before it left. The kickdown rod had only one, larger diameter spring that's attached like in Cubey's post #37.

I did the same thing. I don't remember if she ever mentioned this before.

Around here, it's nothing to hear coyotes. Usually at least two or three nights a week. I've known people who live outside of town who have seen them in their yards at night. They're mostly dangerous to young animals like calves and colts, outside cats, and trash cans.

Bet them horses got clean teeth...
is that whey they kick so hard, or do you gas them first?

That spring set up is from a Chevy gasser engine and a few more GM products. Te outer spring hooked up would just make your foot more tired by having to push harder. The original one probably broke and some one, some where... You got a GM part.

s the pic.

Yep, you have a 3 speed automatic (C6) which means you have no overdrive. (C was circled for their example, your tag says K under transmission).

Your axle code is listed as C5 which translates to 4.10 gears with a limited slip.

That said I'm thinking your truck should pull that load a little better, but you won't be winning any speed races. I have heard a tighter torque converter may help, but I don't know for sure, I'm certainly not well versed in transmissions.

What kind of RPMs are you seeing at 55mph? Assuming you have a tachometer on the dash.
