This engine deal is really starting to irritate me. When I got home from picking it up I saw this intake bolt was missing. I figured he forgot to install it.. Nope , it's broken off in the head. It's my fault for not catching this stuff before hand , but man , this thing was suppose to be bolt in ready.

At this point I think I would be considering a complete teardown and reassembly.
I would feel that I coudn't be certain of ANYthing whatever inside that thing. Unless I had taken it apart, and reassembled it myself.
The bright side is that supposedly you're working with all the right parts. And don't have to buy more parts.
The dark side is that you might find even THAT isn't true...

Ya , I'm pretty frustrated. I'm going to try to get it extracted without pulling the intake / head. If it won't come out I guess I get to tear it down and go through it...

Sorry for your situation homeless but after rereading everything you've said in the thread that guy had no idea what he was doing, doesnt seem to have had documentation, and knew he Fd the motor up so dumped it aka "changed direction"
On the flip side anything can be fixed but I wouldn't trust anything he did.. Torquing/the sequences/the specs for products etc

Ya , I'm not sure what I'm going to do at this point. I am low on funds and extremely behind on getting this truck finished. So if I can get these issues resolved without tearing in to it , the bearings end up looking good , and it sounds good when I test fire it I will probably just toss it in and send it.
At minimum I would slap a torque wrench on the rod and main bolts to make sure they aren't going to decide to go on vacation on you. Sounds like his "torque wrench" wasn't quite right anyway....

Well , I finally got some work done on this engine now that the smoke has cleared up a bit. Unfortunately I have nothing but bad news. It is clear now that I got screwed on this engine. Nothing was torqued , the "new" pistons are clearly used , the "new" head bolts are clearly used. He didn't even bother to clean the used head bolts or clean the threads in the block. The heads will be dropped off at the machine shop tomorrow to see if they are even useable.

At this point I would be surprised if it even has new bearings / rings. We will find out soon , and I will be pulling the cooler apart to see if it has new o-rings as well.

I'm sorry to hear and see your troubles. I hope at least there are some usable parts to do an acceptable rebuild. In my experience, it's best to stay away from rebuilds from unknown sources. Some of the things I've seen through the years are pretty scary.

Ya , I usually don't trust anyone. Unfortunately I was desperate for an engine and took the bait. He is a member on here and I'm sure he's following this thread.
