IDIBRONCO
Today, I took my truck on a treasure hunt and I did find some. I picked up a 1988 F250 Ex. cab, 4x4, ZF5, 7.3. Unfortunately, the body is too shot for me to mess with so I bought it with the intention of stripping it out and then sending it to the scrap yard. About three weeks ago, a friend sent me a text asking if I needed any 6.9/7.3 parts (well duh!). I told him that I'd take a pair of 7.3 heads since I have a short block but no good heads. The I said that I'd take the whole thing if the price was right. He told me that this guy said that there's two trucks, a 1987 with a 6.9 and a 1989 with a 7.3 both 4X4 with a ZF5, and he'd take $500 a piece. I told him HELL YES! I mean who here wouldn't? He wanted a ZF5 for a future project and that was all. I worked out a deal with him for one plus what he didn't want from the other one. He backed out of the deal so I looked at them and told the guy that I'd buy them both. I got some help (from a FREAKING idiot) today and I took him out to flat tow one back to my garage. The owner said that he had the truck pulled out of the weeds in his pasture with a tow style truck. The truck was at least 2/3 of the 3/4 mile (estimated) back to the highway. I got a little bit creative and decided to buy some 3/8" vinyl tubing and run it from the vacuum system on my truck and hook it into the vacuum system on the other truck to have power brakes on the towed one. It worked way better than the afore mentioned idiot did. Since it was only about 10 miles back to my garage, I had no issues with just leaving the transmission in neutral.
