So, after our snooze on Friday night, we got on the road again around 9:30am Sarurday morning. About an hour in, the truck gave a god awful BANG and then the noise lingered around like a Jack hammer that got caught in my undercarriage. I swapped the camper onto Keyaras truck but it wasn't enough to rid of this new gremlin. I wound up removing the rear driveshaft and running 130 miles on front wheel drive. This alleviated 90% of the issue and allowed me to limp to camp.
With 30 miles left to go, the PSD dropped a cylinder so Keyara both trucks limped the final 30 miles and showed up like wounded warriors.
We just parked the rigs and settled into camp on Saturday. Sunday afternoon, Danielle was kind enough to bring her fancy Snap On scan tool over and we found out we have a misfire on number 5 cylinder.
I made friends with the camp ground owner he offered me any help he could offer. So Sunday night after dinner, I backed the IDI into his shop. We pulled the axles and made block off plates to save the gear oil from coming out. He even had metal stock, plasma cutter, gasket punch tool and anything else you could possibly need. Danielle and Keyara wound up hanging out and helling me finish up this little mod. Afterwards a test drive netted a smooth driving front wheel drive truck that verified the rear is indeed toast. Today we will tear into the PSD.

I hope your wheel bearings hold up for the drive home. We had the same thing happen on dad's 88. Tried to pull camper home in 4x4 but the rr wheel bearings gave out, snapped the axle shaft right off and lost the whole wheel assembly!
But after some arguing it was all fixed under warranty

Rally axle replacement today. Found a young gentleman 2 hours away who sourced an axle, delivered it and spent 10 hours helping me install it today. Wrenching is alive and well this year for team Goose.

@GOOSE glad to hear you guys were able to get it fixed up! Nothing quite like the feeling after a successful test drive. What did you end up finding wrong with the old rear?

Its really heartening to know that there are still people around who will do this, will help another person, presumably a stranger, in a time of need. We should all give that young man a hearty "thank you".

Mr Goose, sir, I'm glad your repair went as well as it seemed to. Good job.

@GOOSE you've had a hell of an adventure this week. Sorry I couldn't be there to help out. (Not that you needed it) Glad you were able to get it fixed.
