So, I might be totally out to lunch on this, but it’s my understanding that my ‘94 f350 (7.3 IDI) with an e40d has the parking brake attached to the transmission. So, since I’m looking to swap to a ZF5 how would I go about installing a new parking brake? I’ve never had a parking brake that wasn’t just on the rear wheels so I’m trying to wrap my head around how it even works before I get into my swap.

Is the parking brake in place of the transfer case? On the transfer case? Hopefully someone who has done a swap before can share what they did, it’s my first attempt at any kind of trans swap but my E40d is on its last legs and I’m moving to the mountains.

Cheers!

As far as I know, in the f-350s, the park brake is in the wheels and the f-superduty had a park brake assembly attached to the back of the transmission in place of a transfer case.

Edit: if you do have a f superduty, a 4x4 zf5 should be able to bolt up to your park brake assembly.

Right on all accounts. The F-Superduty ZF5 is just a 4X4 transmission.

I have a '94 F250 4x4 with an idit on an E4od. Unfortunately the adapter housing between the transmission and the transfer case was fractured when the truck was rolled. Is this housing unique to the automatic trans and, it so, does anyone who has done the switch to a manual trans have one they would sell?

Correct - that e4od piece is not found on a ZF5 setup.
