I would.

9.8 is overkill for that. (Maybe they were counting on people not torquing them correctly in the future, and having what happened here?)

Grade 8, 1/2-13 bolts will work fine. With nylocks so whatever you torque it to, it won't rattle itself out.

My understanding was 8.8 is equivalent to SAE GR2 and 9.8 GR5 with 10.8 being equivalent to grade 8. I could be mistaken though.

I would be happy with grade 5 SAE bolts. Not up to ***** on metric stuff really, don't care to be honestly LOL

I would not use 8.8 on suspension. 8.8 metal composition is similar to grade 5. I do not use anything but grade 8 on suspension personally. I've heard counter arguments that grade 8 snaps versus grade 5 bends etc.. No thanks.

8.8 is about 120k psi min tensile strength BTW. Same as grade 5.

8.8 is not grade 8.. I see where your heads at though you said grade 8 would be good for suspension which is true.
Easy to mix up metric VS SAE

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I guess I was 1 off lol.

I've heard all the debates about 5 vs 8 yadda yadda. I'm ok with 5 on the shocks simply because it's not the end of the world if they give out. Suspension mounting hardware for like shackle mounts and stuff definitely grade 8 or better. I'm pretty paranoid about stuff like that. I'm the guy that would pay extra for grade 9 just because.

Tractor supply grade 8 hardware. Buy by the pound. Just about the best deal around. 8.8 on suspension is probably not great. At least that’s not holding the axle to the truck though. I used Roth grad8 or 12.9 on everything ilunder the truck. Probably overkill but I bough boxes from McMaster so it kinda made sense.

Well I got the turbo pulled out today. Valley pan was full of water and oil and diesel. I mopped it out best I could and sprayed some cleaner in there.

Looks like my drain hole is plugged so I'll rod that out before pulling out the old grommet and putting the new one from Russ in.

For what it's worth, the turbo comes out a lot easier when you remember to unbolt the drain pedestal

Could you give us that pick again, but pull out more? (Wider view)

Well because it's you, and you're as terrible as I am, i was going to lean over the open hood/cowl in front of the window and take one and ask if that was far enough back LOL

But lucky for you, and UNLUCKY for me, I had to pull that *expletives* turbo back off a second time, so I was able to snap one for you.

So far, the oil catch can seems to be working. Filter is still white and clean.

Pulling the turbo off I managed to booger up the old screen. So I made a new one just like I made for the dually.

Pretty sure from the amount of oil all over it the turbo oil drain was leaking. Got it all cleaned up and put back together after much fighting and several choice words.

I'll take it to town tomorrow and as long as there's no issues I'll change the oil and get a spare mounted up for it so I can hopefully make the rally on Tuesday.

That perforated metal looks good on there. Right or wrong, at the shop I worked at, our opinion was that that screen probably isn't really needed with a turbo. Whatever makes it through the turbo will be ground up into very small pieces. Those will be small enough that they would go through the factory screen anyway. Is that opinion wrong? I have no idea, but there is some logic behind it.
