May I chime in. I ran IDI's over the road years ago. One lesson IS USE a genuine ford thermostat -or you are asking for big trouble when the rubber meets the road. Check your Fan clutch. Watch for bubbles in the coolant if you loose water. These engines don't take much fancy to being overheated. This is from experience lots of it. The thermostat has an extension that points down toward the block - that is part of the bypass system. Sorry its been since 2005 that I ran one. Or I woud go into more detail.
