I'd still be up for it myself. I'm not sure if it exists yet or not. The talk just kind of stopped. Now would be the time to start trying to make plans for next year.

I'm still interested in persuing it. The idea came from having a rally more people could attend as it moved around some.

Additionally people could join the convoy as it got near them. Drive a half day, stop a couple days, drive another half day. People with more time available could hang in there longer but even if you only had a couple days you could be a part of it as the group got near your location.

I'd think a crew from the east meet up and head west. A crew from the west heads east. Meet in the middle for a few days and then head back doing manageable drives with short stays in between.

So yeah bring on the ideas.

Suggest known good places to stay along the route if you know of any. Help plan the route, find a destination etc. I'd suggest doing an I-40 route. Fewer metro areas to get clogged up in. Have a meet up in Oklahoma. Just throwing ideas out there.

My suggestion is no Interstates. I know that it's not really practical for this type of thing, but I hate taking the Interstate and try to avoid it if at all possible. That's just the way that I am. I'm also more in favor of the Yellowstone idea than someplace in the Great Plains. I live here in the Great Plains, so something different is more attractive to me.

I like the idea of no interstates and out where the country is flatter and more open I can see it being feasible. Where I live it would take all day at an average speed of 30 mph pulling a trailer just to reach the state line because other than the Interstate the roads are too hilly and winding to make any kind of reasonable time.

There needs to be some level of efficiency or it becomes all about the drive and not so much about the camping and experiencing things along the way.

Naturally, although I didn't say it, I was talking about out here where I live. No offense, but I wasn't planning to end up on the East Coast. I feel that you can see much more by taking the back roads than the Interstates here in the flat lands. One example is taking Hwy. 2 in Nebraska. It goes through the Sand Hills. That is an area of sand dunes that are left over from an ancient sea. They still look like sand dunes, but they have grass covering them.

Oh! Well, since I no longer work almost anything is safe for me. I just have to be careful that my daughter isn't looking over my shoulder. She might smack up alongside the head.

Since there hasn't been any updates recently, are we still going to do this in 2021? If not, are we going to push it back to 2022 due to all of the uncalled for chaos that's been happening in the country lately?

If for no other reason than lack of real planning, I don’t see how this could happen next year. The logistics are going to be non-trivial to do it well. Honestly two years of planning might not be enough. I still think it’s a great idea. It’s going to take a lot of cooperation to pull it off.

That’s my 2 cents but I welcome others thoughts.

There was interest at first, then it seemed to taper off. I was pretty sure that , at this point, it wasn't going to happen next summer. There wasn't even a final destination decided on.

I'm still interested. And yes 2022 would be the first year I could do it. Hell I had to give up my trip this year due to too much work.

So I've literally had zero time to think about, let alone discuss is with anyone. I've been gone 7 weeks since July 4th with at least 4 more by October 23rd.

What we need to solidify amongst the group is the format.

I've thought about it in detail and still think a couple days at any one location and then moving on to the next place would be best.

But the idea was founded on the premise of East and West coast meeting up together. So I'd suggest we have at least a 4 day stay at the central meeting point.

So the first day or two everyone on either coast kind of makes their way to their rallying point. Then those groups convoy to the next stop. Stay a couple days there then convoy to the main destination where they meet up with the group going the other direction. Make this a 4-5 day hangout and then we all go back, again in convoy format, and stay a couple days somewhere else after which we make our way home.

The people from the middle states can determine when to jump in as our route brings us in that direction.

What we need to come to agreement on is what are acceptable miles in a day? This is really going to be the difference between " I had a great time" and "Never again".

Just off the cuff I'd say 4-500 miles with 500 being the max would be realistic from the east. Might be more from the west or not? I don't know what's acceptable to most people. I'm a bit of a road warrior. I'll do a 12 hour day and think nothing of it. I realize many people would hate that.

So what seems realistic?

Thoughts? Opinions?

I'm the same way except maybe worse. I seem to like to punish my body on longer trips. # or 4 hours of sleep in a couple of days seems to be kind of typical for me. Since I live in the Plains, 500 miles seems like a kind of short drive, but that's just me.

Thoughts? Opinions?
Sounds good to me so far. I'm not sure if I'd stay the whole 4 or 5 days at the central location. It just kind of depends on what else I have going on at that point.

Are we thinking something like (I'm pulling this highway out of thin air) we all start trickling to I70 or I80 and meet along way and in middle?
