IDI to 7.3 Conversion

Got a wrecked 215k mile 97 F350 7.3 PSD 4x4 with a Manual trans.
And I am going to put the 7.3 with harness, EMC, FICM, and dash into my 94 7.3 IDI F350 auto crew cab.
Only problem is that the ZF5 tail housing is busted and I am not to keen on buying one for what Ebay sellers are asking.
How hard would it be to splice an auto trans harness into a manual harness?

I have two Manual PSD PCMs. Was going to flash one over to auto myself. It's just an eeprom and I have done this myself on my 06 Volkswagen TDI when I did and EGR delete.

won't work. you can go auto to manual but not vice versa

much easier to just find a rebuilt zf5 and run with it.

The 96-97 ZF S-47 variant may fetch extra $$$. I'm unsure if the tail is any different than the older S-42. If its just the mounting foot bolt-boss that's broken, that's a really common break and not a show stopper. When I had Fords, I really liked the closer ratios of the diesel S-42.

FWIW, I like the IDIT more than the PSD... and would consider an auto-to-manual swap on its own.

well if the OP thinks the 7.3 has a ficm, I suggest an LS swap :bail

If you want to go PSD / Auto you need an an auto donor.

I highly suggest a hard copy of the Ford EVTM and wiring diagrams. I just got some for about $50 each on eBay. There are CDs and such cheaper but way harder to work with, have both now.

The more you keep this a direct parts/ loom swap the easier it will come together.
I have 94 EVTM / diagrams and 96 as well PM me for something specific if I can help.

I meant IDM........... Been under the hood of too many 6.0's hahaha.
I can confirm the the tail shaft housing is completely *****.
Broke all the way around and is missing a few small pieces.
At this point I am just going to do the swap and figure out the trans when it is the last thing left to take care of.

So I found a manual 4x4 trans from a wrecked 89 F250 IDI for $500. The tailshaft housing will work on my zf5 if I shave down the shift rail.
And the guy made me an offer I couldn't refuse so I will not be doing the conversion.
He traded me a 95 CC F350 7.3 PSD 2WD with only 198k miles on it and a clean title.
The truck needs a bed, front drivers door, steering column, hood, and seats.
Had to change the fuel pump and replace a fuel line on the HPOP to get it started but it fired up!
Dude told me to take what I wanted from the 97 and all he needed was the engine, and all electrical components, and the front axle.
And he threw in the 7.3 IDI to sweeten the deal! My laziness did me in!
I got to keep the bed, tcase, trans, front bumper, fuel tanks/lines.

7.3 idi trans will bolt right up to a 7.3 psd...too late now it sounds like.

wo that thing took a hard hit to twist up a cab chassis frame like that. better you traded it, before oyu foudn all the other broken parts in it.........
