I'm waiting for thewespaul to offer to trade for him stolen trailer

No, @Thewespaul offers a stolen trailer with no title..... has to make sure to sweeten the pot......

For me though, the only thing that would make my wife mad about buying a cheap Jetta is that I would have to fix it before she could drive it. We had a 91 and she loved it........

Bolts are one time use, all of them. Dealer should be able to give you all the part numbers and then can go online and get them cheaper haha.

For special tools you can get away with not having the alignment tools but they make it so much smoother. There's a special tool for taking the hub off cam but there may be an alternative way to do it without the special tool. There's a handy crank lock tool but that's another thing that aftermarket world has probably figured a way around or duplicated.

And you probably already know but these cams have shells like cranks do so make sure you get those also

That job isn't too much of a **** story... in the realm of TDI timing, it's just annoyingly tedious, especially when you can clearly see all of the over engineered nonsense they add haha. I just got spoiled using and buying special tools so I am not good at thinking of ways around them, aside for special tools that are clearly just a bolt that locks the cam in place haha.

Some companies like GAS have special tool rental programs that make it a lot easier

so you did find a worn out lifter or haven't torn the top off yet for inspect? I have an 04 TDI that everybody says is due for a cam but its still runs fine. are these anythign like the 7.3 powerstroke when dirty oil can be your only drivability issue? I've never run my oil too long in my TDI so its never happened to me, but i have pushed my 7.3 powerstroke into crappy dirty oil running issues .
