Thanks. Wish I took more pictures as I went. I would have posted the build on here, but was not a member when I started. I was also debating v10, powerstroke, or IDI. Went with the IDI as my build cost was already at the price of a new f250 at the time. The first engine build I was going off of word of mouth from other IDI owners I know and some google searches, hence R&D parts I got. This project I did start about 8 years ago. Soooo this now brings me to a new question. Should I go with .010 under Mahle pistons to lower compression for more boost along with the R&D cam? Also add gap less rings? I seen, don’t recall who with 200,000 + miles on two 6.9 with gapless rings.

There is definitely less blowby with the gapless rings. One little advantage is it makes the banks upside down cdr manageable as oil does not collect in it. One disadvantage is I can no longer fog for mosquitoes by removing the oil fill cap.

Alright, gapless 2nd rings it will be. Now as far as the pistons. What doe you guys think. The Mahle piston that is .010 under reduced compression height, or leave standard? I will have the R&D cam that already bleeds off some compression.

It’s never too late to start a thread on the truck, I went through two engines in the shop truck before the build thread started. I would only drop the compression if you need to, maybe mock-up the cam in the stock engine with the stock pistons and see what kind of clearance you’re starting with and order your pistons based off that.

 Start a thread!
One of these days, I'll pirate the "project Saburai" thread that Wes started - turn it in to "Project Raylan the Bull"! I'll proly do that when I install the intercooler
