Wondering if it’s as simple as swapping my hypermax turbo out for a factory Garret that ford used in 93 on my 7.3. Or will I need to do a bunch of swapping of pieces to make it work.

Are you asking if you can bolt the 93 turbo onto the hypermax mount? If that's your question, I'm pretty sure it isn't a bolt on deal if it could be done at all. The 93 is a t3/t4 hybrid style turbo I'm not sure what hypermax used but I'm pretty sure they spin the opposite direction which mainly means the connections for compressor and exhaust will have to be adapted. If the exhaust housing flange was the same then you would need to custom fit the down pipe and then you'll have to deal with the compressor connection to the intake manifold since they spin opposite directions the angles of the fittings won't even be close. I'm not sure how hypermax configured their oil return but it's likely different than what could be used by the 93 uses as well. The '93 factory design is basically the kit ATS offered for these engines while hypermax and banks were competing designs.

If you are looking to get more performance from the Hypermax unit, talk to Russ (@typ4) www.russrepair.com He's got some mods that can be done to the hypermax unit to make it move some more air.

On edit:

Correction: They do spin the same way but as Wes says below the T3 exhaust mounting flange is different from the T4.

The hypermax is basically the same turbo as the factory turbo with a T4 turbine and a larger exhaust wheel. You won’t really gain any performance by going to a factory turbo but will have better bottom end because of the tighter hot side, you will need to build a custom drain, intake hat and downpipe. For the work, I would swap in a small modern turbo like a s257 sxe or GTX35 turbo, I’ve fit both on that kit without issue.
