well after digen in , i found something very interesting . some fords have this module in the back of the speedo cluster that is called a slosh module ford ((
xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media
))) do the super dutys have these ? the problem i am having is when the tank is full and reads correct as it slowly goes down to empty and the warning light comes to refill . after i fill her up and turn the key the gauge just goes to 1/4, then very very slowly goes to half tank after about 15 mins of driveing. next day it still on half tank but an hour of driveing it goes to 3/4. then about a half hr it finley's get to full. if these trucks have a slosh model is it behind the speedo cluster or some where else or do the super dutys have this.
Thank you for any help

never heard of this, could be the float in your tank. Perfect time to do the hutch & harpoon mod, and clean the in tank screens while you're in there.

I have seen this. I just thought it was a very slow gauge.

...if you do the hutch mod, aren't you ELIMINATING the in-tank filter screens?.....so why would you clean them?

float don't do this stranges reading. it would not be a float , floats dont go bad the fuel rheostat sends the signal and that would give a bad fuel level. I did think it was a bad rheostat . but as time went on when i filled up with fuel it went up but took a very long time to go to full. I do get the right millage every time i refuel 15 MPG ,and a little over 600 miles to a full tank ( 40 gallon tank )

Hears the thread i thought it was the rheostat.

I ordered the truck brand new to my specs in 11-20-2001, one of the first things i did was the huch mode and elemated the fuel filters in the tank and installed a racor heated 10 micron spin on filter mounted on the frame rail before the fuel pump.

I'm not sure how the resistor modules look after '97 but this is what's in both of my trucks and a link to order them off ebay for ~ $20. I suspect the SD ones are slightly different if you have a low fuel light. I'm pretty sure they'll have an extra wire connected to part of the resistor. That company may have the correct sender though. If they are physically similar to the OBS trucks it's pretty easy to pop the housing off the side of the pickup assembly and scrub the resistors. Before you go to all that trouble, would't it be less work to pull the instrument cluster and check for that module? Seems like less effort than dropping a tank and seems to be more likely to be the problem.

Float is this one but can be had a little cheaper too:
