I just acquired a nice condition 2wd f350 deck truck. Almost zero rust. Has seized 390, which I could pull and rebuild, but I have a 90 f250 2wd w/idi just sitting here that runs great but has gotten too rough to drive.

My question is simple: What are the main issues putting the f250 drivetrain into the 75 f350?

I assume mounting and weight are the main issues, but those obstacles seem easy enough to overcome.

All advice welcome.

I have a 74 highboy 4x4 with big block & 4spd, also have a good 7.3 idi with banks turbo sitting in corner of garage. And I"ve consumed more than a few beers pondering this swap. Since idi's were also mated to the old granny gear 4spds and those bellhousings are bolt-on, I'm guessing you could simply find a 4spd bell for an idi and hook up to your existing trans. If so that eliminates many issues leaving only motor mounts and wiring.

The kingpin I-beam setup will hold a heavy engine just fine. Might be time for some fresh coil springs though.

What's the oil pan orientation required for these old trucks? (front vs rear sump)

What trans is in the '75 and '90?

The transmission bolted to the factory trans mount and cross member.

Building motor mounts to bolt in between motor side flange and factory cross member hopefully today.

The oil pan on my motor is rear sump and it fits, snug, but fits just behind the steering linkages.
