I have seen a manual lockup mod here on OB somewhere...
For the converter, just an interruptor signal from a manual switch, torque converter is locking up no problem it’s the downshifting that’s keeps it from loading at lower rpms with this trans.

I wish, the psds run the trans via the ecm where our trucks have a separate tcm. Only way I could see to do it without a manual valve body is to have the fipl output on a switch to fool the trans, and manual override for the lockup pin on the tcm.
I wasn't sure if the tcm had the service port like an ecm does. I thought maybe if it did a chip could be burned to modify the shift strategy to aid in dyno use or even towing. I'm kinda curious now. I might have to look and see on the spare tcm we have on the shelf. I know a standalone contoller would ultimately be a solution, but that's a big price for just some dyno pulls.

If you put a switch on the shift solenoid 1 wire and turned it off after it got into 3rd,the trans wouldn't be able to down shift (orange/yellow wire)

Edit: you may have to also ground shift solenoid 2 so it stays in 3rd and doesn't go back to fourth when it tries to shift to second (purple/orange wire).

That would probably work but it would need the torque converter lockup switch as well otherwise it’s going to unlock the converter to try and bring the rpms up to where it wants it, but I don’t want to try and experiment on this $$$ trans to find out. I’ve got some projects I’m working on that have manuals and will be setup more as toys than tow vehicles that will satisfy the dyno numbers crowd. Just finished taking a first test drive in a local customer’s 83 I’ve been building, it’s going to be making some good numbers and the shop truck should hopefully be making a comeback soon, I’ve had an engine sitting for it for the last four months just no time to work on my stuff right now.

Well, big blue went home to Arizona Sunday, Daniel must be getting ready for a cannonball run because he made it all the way back home the same day about 1300 miles of driving.

Before the truck left, I replaced the original windshield, gave the truck a detailing and polished up the wheels. It’s quite the beauty, cannot wait to see this thing with all the body work done and fresh paint.

Sounds like the trip went well with the truck, seems like there’s a vibration now with the big single piece driveshaft at certain speeds unloaded, talking with my driveshaft builder and going through countless tsbs the other night we’re thinking we need to use some shims to adjust the pinion angle to closer to where it sits when loaded, where there is no vibrations. That’s a wrap on this project for now, hope to see pictures of big blue being put to work soon! Thanks for everyone following along with this project, and thanks to Daniel for bringing such neat project in and trusting me with his baby.

Thanks Wes for all the hard work and putting up with me adding new items every week. The power in this thing is awesome! Looking forward to putting her to work soon. In the meantime, it’s off to paint for now.

Glad to hear it turned out so well, super nice truck. I have to admit, as I was scrolling down those last pics, I was wondering if the new paint and body work mentioned was going to have to include a cowl induction hood, but it's clear now it's all stuffed under there with no problems, Enjoy it!!!

Awesome thread, awesome follow, awesome outcome, and can't wait to read another! @Thewespaul u may claim to be just a grease monkey, but you are intelligent, diligent, and have extreme attention for detail and your work is above and beyond what I have been able to find from a dealership or a mechanic shop. @94bluebeast damn good looking truck and I feel you will be pleased with the results.

All painted up, new head unit and back up camera in. Still have several details to wrap up in the interior, but coming along nicely.

Wes did a great job on this thing, it is a blast to drive.
