That looks like a real nice truck. Good luck with it, I think you'll be grad you bought it. Dan

Thanks! I'll be digging in to it this week. Hopefully it's good news and the engine doesn't have to come out !

That's a real beauty in your avatar, too!
Thanks! I've been trying to find it for a long time. I sold it about 10 years ago. It was my first truck. I put a lot of time in to it and eventually swapped an idi in it then sold it. I have a son now and would love to buy it back and build it with him for his first truck.

I was able to spend some time on the truck today. Unfortunately it isn't good news. I bought some new batteries and changed the oil/filter so I could spin it over for a compression test. I planned on using my glow plug adapter for the test so I pulled the glow plugs. I was pleased to see they were all Beru, unfortunately this is how they came out lol :

I thought about trying to shoot them out , but I'm just going to pull the engine and get it over with.

I dug around a little in the truck and found some interesting things.

What is this plastic key for?? It says for emergency use only..

So my plan now is to pull the engine , drop it off at the machine shop and see what condition the block and heads are in and go from there. While I'm waiting on the machine shop I will install the lift kit and I need to order some tires.

HA I forgot all about those! I think you're supposed to get it cut for the truck and keep it in your wallet in case you lose your keys. Haven't seen one in many many years though!

Those glow plugs look... Impressive. That sucks.

Did the glow plugs break or did they burn off? To me, they look like they burned off. You may still be able to put new ones in. You could have several leaky injectors.

I assumed they broke off. But now that you mention it , they did have zero resistance coming out. I was surprised how easily they came out. I will have to go take a closer look at them.

I believe that leaky injectors can (will?) burn the ends off like yours. I know that would explain why that kept happening to me before I bought my pump and injectors from Mel.

They look burned to me. That's better news than broken. Unless you were wanting an excuse to pull the engine.

They definitely look burned ! :Thumbs Up It didn't even cross my mind until you mentioned it. I definitely don't want a reason to pull the engine haha. I need it on the road asap. I'm going to go ahead and do the compression test tomorrow.

I agree, they do look burned but, Roll that engine over by hand a couple times first JIC!! Don't want to ding up some potentially nice pistons and valves just because excitement is in the air.

If they are burned, that means you have some injector work to do next.
