Removed the cap from Betsy and pressure washed the rear window. Going to toss some silicone around it as a preventative measure and put a new bulb in the cab light. Anyone know when that light should be on?

Tomorrow I will be pulling everything possible off this truck minus axles and tires so it can be rolled away for scrap. Once I get everything back, I will post some pictures for everyone just in case someone needs something!

My old silverado had a switch for the cargo light, but it only came on with the dome light on. I assume these just come on with the internal dome light?

EDIT: you beat me by seconds LOL

@IDIBRONCO @chillman88 Thanks guys, I will go open the door and then cycle the light switch to see if I can get it to come on. Since the cap was on, haven't seen it illuminated yet! I will probably break a screw, snap the plastic and cause a leak into the cab.

Okay so, fuse is good, dome light comes on as do the rest of the curtesy lights. No light using 3 different bulbs at the cargo light including the working one from the dome light. Any ideas? It did have a little moisture and some growth in the enclosure. Not sure what I am looking for with a meter on this one. Might snag the plug from the parts truck just in case.

Take the entire light out of the truck. The body inside the cavity should be removable.

Once out, check the wires, to see if one is broken, or if there is corrosion on the connectors, etc.

Kinda wish I could be there. Can't afford that right now, though.

If I could, I'd try to snag those rain shields on the tops of the doors. The tie downs off the side of the bed. And the three gauges and their senders on the bottom of the dash.

Absolutely NOT things to make special effort over, though.

@chillman called dibs on the window covers. But if you want the bed hooks, I can bring them with me! And if my light isn't working by then, we may have to check it out.

If the gauges are good I will take them, at the least the bracket.

It's been almost 30 years, but I'm pretty sure that my on F150, the cargo light would come on by itself with that switch. That way, you could see what's in the bed from, inside the cab, at night without having a glare form the dome light.

Now that makes sense doesn't it. Never could understand why that truck was wired that way.

Looks great with the cap off. Didn’t think I could like the truck any more than I do. The socket fir the cargo light looks just like my tail lights and marker lights, slightly brownish tan. And they all work. Wires had tape around them but looked okay.

I printed the wiring diagrams from garysgaragemahal on 11x17 and put them in a folder for keepsake. Still doesn’t help if my light switch, fuse, and bulb are all new!

Wait wait wait wait, I’m no electrician, but if my headlight switch is old and crusty (floor) but my light switch is new would that be a problem?
