how to remove turbo while in truck?

I have a couple of trucks (85, 89) that are getting ready for the scrap yard, but want to remove their turbos and exhaust tubing in case I want to use them later. I have been fooling around with them on and off for a couple of days and have come to the probable conclusion that I will have to pull engines to get the turbos off. Please change my mind!

Which kits are they? Some are more of a pita . Sawzall is probably the easiest solution.

One is a Banks, one is something I have never seen, probably from the 90's. Firewall cutting sounds like a winner. Thanks!

The factory IDIT is a knuckle-buster, but I managed to get it out without cutting anything.

Sitting in the truck, you will definitely need to sawzall the firewall to remove a turbo.
Much easier if you get out and open the hood...

;)

The Banks on my 86 wasn't awful (according to the guy that did it LOL), but the plastic stuff is pretty brittle.

A turbo can be removed with the engine in the truck. While it may be easier, you don't have to cut anything. I've done it many times.

The only good thing about working on my turbo van is access to the turbo. I can pull my kit off in 15 minutes.
Those are the turbos that I hated the most in a truck. I don't remember anything being easy on them without the access from the back of the engine.

Hello,

When I did mine I used the torch to bend a couple of wrenches so that I could get better access. I still had to cut one of the bolts loose though with a cutoff wheel. It was a PITA for certain. It is good time to get into touch with your creative cursing side. I know I invented a couple new ones while removing that pig. Hopefully it will go smoother for you.
