Mine has fallen off about 5 or 6 times. One time it was glued on by a window shop. So I just drilled a hole through the base and used the center screw from the window trim. can't fall now. Anybody remember the old days when all mirrors were attached to the ceiling? They never came off and never were a problem. :dunno

I just used a clear 2 part epoxy from Ace and it has held for several years now--even bumped into it a few times.

I just use ultra grey and let it set up a few days. Was told by parts store rep that the mirror glue has exp date.....and most on the shelf will be expired. Don't know it that is true or not, but haven't had one that was ultra greyed come off.

I just finished mine earlier in the week. Yes I'm slow. I used urethane based adhesive from 3m. I was a two part epoxy and not cheap, but it seems to work very well. I can go out in the shop and get the tube if that helps. The only thing is that you need a special applicator to get the stuff out evenly.

Nevermind...
Just realized you were talking about the one on the windshield.

Go to a glass shop. They have glue that actually works. It cost me ~$10 years ago for them to come out front and glue it on.

That is exactly what I did.

Removed the metal button from the base. Drilled a hole through the base. (Had to miss that piece of spring steel in the base.) Located a longer screw that would do the same job as the center screw on the trim...

And Bob's yer uncle!

With my rough gravel road, there is a possibility that this will eventually work it's way loose. But I have a different plan, if that happens.

I've always used the same urethane from 3m that they install windshields with. It's always seemed to work well.

Here's the process.

1. Clean/scuff windshield and bracket with a scotch brite pad and acetone.
2. Clean windshield again with an ammonia glass cleaner and let dry. Use everything lint free. and make sure it's spotless.
3. Apply 3m primer #08682 to windshield and bracket and allow to dry for 5-10 minutes.
4. Apply 3m urethane #08690 to mirror bracket and install bracket to primered area on windshield. You typically have several minutes to get it situated where you want it.
5. Hold in place by hand until it doesn't move and then apply painters/masking tape to hold it.
6. Install mirror to bracket after urethane has cured, I usually wait a few days.
