If it starts by plugging it in first. Will it damage it if I drive it?

Nope. It's just like driving it after the glow plugs have warmed up the precups enough so they don't have to be on any more.

Haven't been around here much latley However I couldn't help but read that you developed a knock? that knock is likely a glow plug tip on top of a piston the consensus is right ditch the oem controller My 86 did the exact same as yours The only diffrence is I had already installed a button between the controller and the relay ! The controllers tend to fail to the on position !

Ok...planning to replace glow plugs AND GPC...but I see two different types on Rock Auto... Shows one like in the photo in BBJordans post (super motors) and another one that appears to look like a solenoid... Is this something else that should be swapped out? What gives? Thx!!

Am I correct in assuming that if I have a button on dash to activate glow plugs, then the GPC has been bypassed at some point in time? Thx! Still learning these things...

Question: When installing new glows, should I use any thread lube, or never seize, or maybe thread locker...blue, or less? Or install them dry... Thx...

Anti-seize is the only thing I have used.

And that, only because of the trouble sometimes, getting them to come out.

Although silicone dielectric grease might work instead.

Might be up to personal preference but I use never seize on everything, glow plugs are no exception. Had to pull out a bad Motorcraft plug last week, came right out with ease!
