What's this nicely sheared off bolt supposed to go to? Was like that when pulled

Thanks @Thewespaul
Will probably leave it as is then vs trying to wrestle with it. When i got the truck it had a burned up ground cable anchored to the block on the passenger side. I made a new one and installed in the same location. Haven't had any issues so far.

If you haven't gotten your seals yet a member here (Russ @typ4) has a turbo install kit that has all the correct seals to make everything dry again. They are on his website:

https://russrepair.com/install-kit-factory-turbo/

If you're going to tackle a turbo rebuild while its out I recently made an album of pictures and comments of my experience with a rebuild I did a month or so ago. You can see what you're getting into, it not complicated if there's no major damage to begin with.

No automaker has ever attached a ground strap to an exhaust manifold.

I don’t know, I’ve seen several there and the location makes sense. On the na trucks the ground strap goes to the back of that cylinder head where the up pipe goes in front of, if it’s not that, then what is it for?

Ground straps go to the Block. Not to something that can come loose over time.

Ahh gotta learn something new everyday.
So as I'm obviously missing the heat shielding. What options do i have here. Is there a source for the shield? Aftermarket options? @Thewespaul whats your recommendation ?

Thank you @aggiediesel01
I did get the install kit from russ. Thank you @typ4 !! I hadn't planned on getting into the turbo itself this time around as everything seems good there but I haven't looked too hard there for any issues yet. I appreciate the write up and may opt to dig into it while I'm at it

Wes is probably going to recommend, and most will agree, ceramic coating for all the hot side components. There's several good header wraps on the market as well but the odd shapes make it difficult to turn out good product in my experience. You can get generic blankets for the turbine scroll which are pretty good for that but the pipes will still need some kind of attention. The more heat you keep in the pipes the more efficient your turbo will be. If you're into the diy stuff, I believe Eastwood has some interesting inside ceramic coating paint that is pretty well reviewed as well as exterior ceramic paints.

I agree. This is why I sent him all of my hot side parts to have them ceramic coated. My manifolds, crossover/up pipe turbo mount (first gen Banks), and the upper part of my down pipe are all coated now. I have a universal blanket for the hot side of the turbo itself. I mostly did this to help keep the cab temps down, but if I get a performance gain, then it's just that much better.
