Truck is '94 F-350. I'm using the Kent Moore J33300 that I've had for 10+ years, but I haven't used it for a long time. Timing light is an ESI that does not have any advance dials. Just straight up zero. Using a fuel line ferret on #1 cylinder.

I marked the dampener and the sight with white pen. It's easy to see. Initial timing with the pump lines lined up was exactly 0.0.

My issue is that I can only move the pump so far and then the high idle solenoid hits the upper radiator hose. Best I could get was 2.8 btdc. This was about 2 QUARTER thicknesses beyond the pump marks lining up. (To the passenger side.)

Pump is from Oregon Injection and receipts in the truck show it was installed by a Ford dealer in Oregon.

Is it possible that they lined the pump up off by one tooth? Or is it more likely that I'm doing something wrong here?? I'm happy to admit that I don't know what I don't know.

I've never used the Kent Moore J33300. I have a Ferret and an adjustable timing light.

You are more than welcome to borrow my setup if you need.

1 You need a setback gun, with a ferrett, kent moore using pulse method is a better way out.
Do you have the line clamp?
2 check the hall of shame for ip quality
3 look in the tech section for timing thread to set up the k.m. Meter, you do not need a gun with the clamp!

4 good luck

If it turns out that the reading is accurate and you’re maxed out on your advance adjustment you can make a few modifications to hydraulically advance your timing, one being breaking out the ball in the return fitting to lower your housing pressure, which should net you a few degrees across the board.

I may take you up on that, but it may be a few weeks before I can get up your way.
My buddy and I are headed to Vegas and Primm next weekend as we had the terrible idea to enter the Mint400 race. Mostly just to say we did it. Entered the Team Enduro class so it should be fairly low key fun, but we get to hang out in the pits with the real racers.

If all else fails, you could bend the solenoid bracket toward the pump a little bit. I've had the solenoid hit the hose clamp on the radiator hose if the clamp wasn't installed right.
