Anyone know if a factory turbo downpipe can be modified to fit an 088 or know where to find a downpipe for one?

I might be able to get one made but it would be far better if I can do something at my place instead of having to haul the truck somewhere else.

An 088 downpipe is pretty specific because of the slip fit housing, no flange to go off of to run anything else really.

Yeah I know that, I was hoping I could cut down a factory style downpipe but I don't know if the outlet is close enough in location to be able to make it work. I don't need anything special, but the kit I have is lacking that crucial piece.

I guess I could try calling ATS, hadn't considered that until now.

Anything is possible with some metal working tools, but what I was getting at is the OD of the 088 downpipe is what holds the downpipe in the slip fit, also the 093 mounts on the corner of the engine where the 088 mounts in the center, it would be worth a shot but you would need a way to expand the pipe out to get a tight slip fit to keep it from falling out

Yeah I can get the end swaged. It's more of an issue getting the truck to a shop. If I can get close fitment I can put it in at home, don't really feel like driving it to a shop with no exhaust after the turbo!

Have you measured the diameter? Maybe it's a common size like 3" Then maybe you could take a powerstroke dp and cut off the upper 1/3 and make that fit.

They're supposed to be 3" but I haven't measured to be sure. That was my original idea but I really didn't know where they sit in relation to each other and didn't want to waste all that money on something that's way off.

According to Wes....

the 093 mounts on the corner of the engine where the 088 mounts in the center

This is my dilemma. I'll probably still try it, worst case I guess I can always cut notches out to bend one at home and tack it up for a shop to use as a template.

The obs powerstroke also has the turbo mounted in the center of the valley and it’s also not wastegated. The difference is the DP in the PS comes all the way up the back of the engine to meet the turbo at the top.

The 088 has that long casting that hangs down the back and a slip joint connection. And if I remember correctly there’s a tab on the side of the DP that a spring hangs on or link bolts to that goes over and attaches to the exhaust manifold bolt to support it in the slip joint.

My suggestion is that once the PS down pipe gets 1/3 of the way down the back of the engine, it’s very likely nearly in the same location as the slip joint would be on the 088 system. If it’s the correct diameter.

Thank you! That could be the best route to take then. It'll be a while before I get to mess with it but I'll start off with a PS Downpipe then!

Notice the link that attaches to the tab on the DP and connects to the manifold stud. That is what holds the DP in place, not the slip connection. The slip connection should be exactly that a slip into place arrangement. You will have to create the tab and link arrangement to hold it there if you don't have it. Also don't be afraid to put some dents or otherwise modify the DP you get, remember the factory pieces were really smashed up to fit. I doubt any massaging youll have to do will have a significant impact on performance.

@chillman88 I was just going to suggest a psd downpipe too as long as the OD is correct and then weld some tab on to hold it in place. We may have a used psd downpipe laying around to see if it could be made to work.
