I am in need of factory Ford/Motorcraft/Navistar stainless freeze plugs and the install tool or dimensions to make my own.

Anyone have extra plugs or the tool they'd be willing to sell, rent or borrow?

Thanks!

You can still get the plugs at Ford dealers, maybe IH. I have the install tool, will lend for cost of shipping to/from.

It looks like all of the plugs I've found online from dealers are NLA.

What IH/Navistar sites do you guys have good luck with?

Is the OEM plug a must?

Any chance the 7.3 PowerStroke is the same plug?

What plugs have coolant behind them?
Is it only the 2 tap in plugs or do the threaded in plugs block off coolant?

I don't think a regular cup style plug will work. These use the concave style plugs and as I remember there's a lip around the inside edge of the hole. You set the plug into the hole, then dent the center in to expand the sides out. Its been years since I replaced any so I don't know who still makes them.

Justin Anderson has a You Tube video about installing the cup style plugs. Basically, you have to modify a hole saw and drill the holes out to 1 1/2".

I watched Justins video , looks a little scary doing with a hand drill. Personally I would use a mill. Mag drill ,with some leveling spacers would also work .

That's what's keeping me on the fence about trying it myself. I want to, I'm just not quite that confident in my abilities.

Grind the set off the outside of the teeth of the hole saw, and it should be pretty safe to take the lip out of the hole.

That was my impression too. It's one of those things that is probably simpler to do than it seems before actually doing.

Th stock ones are plenty easy to install, are available at Summit racing and other places. Dorman part no. 550-022 for about $6 for a set of 10

I have the detailed drawing of the freeze plug tool, somewhere. It's on my other computer, at home. I'll be there by this evening. It takes me a while to find it whenever I look, but I'd be happy to send it to anyone. OTOH, Knuckledragger's offer to lent his is hard to beat for a one time job.
