Tachometer Add on

I bought a cheap ($20) DeWhel from Amazon that operates off the alternator and it does a pretty darn good job.
I know most won't recommend using cheap gauges but it is working for me and is pretty darn accurate.
My oil pressure gauge and water temperature I bought from Harbor freight and those are working fine for me as well.
I also just bought an egt guage from Amazon for $20 but haven't installed it yet so can't say how good it is.

I've seen this several times before. I can't rememeber if I saw any on 85 year trucks or not. The tach was getting to be pretty common by 86 so I think Ford decided to do it this way so it would be easier to install a tach.

My 87 was missing its tach sensor, gauge would bounce around. Popped one in, no luck.

That's about as far as I got with my attempt

It’s not my thread but it shows almost exactly what I did with the very same tach. I’ve used it for a year now and it works great. It just runs off of the field terminal on the alternator.

On my 85, the wiring was all there, just had to put the tachometer dSh and sesn
