I've noticed a little more on the voltage gauge flux issue I mentioned awhile back... It only occurs with the parking lights or headlights on.

The gauge will flux from about 3/4 across its range (where it normally sits) down to about halfway, repeatedly for up to 20 seconds that I've noticed so far. Rhythmic, regular flux. Almost like the glowplugs are cycling... but that does not appear to be what's going on since the problem does not occur while the headlights are off.

Ideas? Sounds like headlights switch... but I don't really feel like paying Ford to do the job. Not sure how hard it'd be to do myself, and not willling to take the chance that that is the problem until I get some opinions here.

I would put a volt meter on it and check to see what is really happening. Could be something as "simple" as a bad ground to the dash. Check the voltage at the batteries and at the headlights. Using a older analog meter is much better to see the pulsing then the digital ones. I know Radio Shack had some old ones on clearance here in Canada a few months ago, was about $5 and was a 0-15 or 0-30 V analog meter.

I had what you described with the 89 I had a brandnew alt and regulator never did figure it out. I never did have any troubles with it I was told thou that some regulators were faulty and didn't work with the alt.

If I run the batteries down ie using the headlights the flickering pretty much stopped my alt light also blinked.

That's a good question. I can't remember from my reading if they went to a relay in 92 or not. They do have that underhood fuse box, so maybe they did. I'll have to take a look at Lady Moose to decide. Something that has been on my to do list for a while now.
