Historically, Carter seems to be the recommended aftermarket mech pump, is that still true? Yep there's Motorcraft but it's about $80. I could get two Carter pumps from RockAuto for under $50 shipped.

Despite the advantages of an electric fuel pump, the low cost of mechanical ($30) vs a Facet (about $160 with block off plate, wire, relay, fuse holder, hose to bypass mech pump route, etc) makes me think for now, I will stick with mechanical.

I might add a $22 Mr Gasket type pump on a toggle switch under the hood for air purging purposes only. In fact, my F250 solely runs on that kind of pump, but it's NA. It was on the truck when I got it and I parked it after 2 years of driving it full time with it. It still ran fine when parked last spring so the pumps are half decent.

Maybe I will upgrade later, but for now budget wise, I would rather spend the extra $130 on other stuff.

Edit: i bet this Napa pump is a rebranded Carter based on the same exact stock photo. (Napa also has what appears to be a rebranded Delphi 0050)

Napa's probable Carter:

I might get two Carters from RA for about $50 shipped, but maybe that's overkill.

The only advantage to Napa is being able to exchange it anywhere. If I buy one pump, it costs close to the same as Carter on RA. Two would add $13+.

O'Reilly's 3 review, all 1/5 star, "Precision" mech pump uses the same stock photo as RA Carter and Napa. All 3 reviews complain that the pump was junk right out of the box.

But a napa warranty is worth it's weight in gold when I'm stranded with a wife and 3 kids at O'Riley they want to **** me around and RA has good deals but same thing if I have to warranty anything I'm a week out and a week could mean a few grand or pissed wife

Amazon solicits reviews and makes it easy to provide them. I've not experienced that from O'Reilley's. So take their reviews with a grain of salt.

Junk out of the box might suggest that they got the arm on the wrong side of the fuel pump cam. I've got a parts store pump on my truck. It's still working and at least 5 years old.

Good idea on the cheap electric pump. It will make a good emergency backup if needed. It should get you to the nearest Napa....

@Cubey I'm paranoid about some things, If I was in your position I personally would carry a spare regardless because we all know when a fuel pump fails you won't be anywhere near a parts store! Honestly myself I would probably get two from RockAuto.

You might be fine with an emergency e-pump on a switch if the mechanical gives out but living out of your vehicle I'd certainly be over-cautious. You can run on 5 of 6 tires, you can get a jump if the battery dies, you can limp a blown cooling system, but if it won't get fuel you're in trouble!

O'Reilly's pump has a lifetime warranty, while Napa's is 1 year. Just pointing that out.

It's possible, but who knows for sure.
