Drove it tonight. Small oil leak on the new valve cover and oil drain but I had to fight for 4psi and no whistle. It has the 60-1 mod. Glanced under before I called it a night and didn’t see any soot on the crossover pipe or wye. The oring is in the turbo/intake snail connection, gasket is under the snail and the washer with rubber gasket is on the bolt. My initial wastegate setting was to hold it shut and turn the arm until the eye would slip over the wastegate arm. I’m shooting for 7-8psi since I’m on factory head bolts.

It was set between 8 and 8.5 when I put the pump on about a year ago but my facet pump drops from 6 to 3-4psi when it’s floored. I used the copper gasket spray on all exhaust connections. I’ll get a better look for soot leaks when I get off work in the morning, I was pretty upset last night and didn’t want to mess with it. Pulling the arm for the wastegate to the front of the truck closes it, right? I was driving at night so I couldn’t see the color of the smoke but it did look pretty thick like it did n/a. Revving in the garage it was black.

No soot on any of the up pipe connections. Small spot on the firewall from the down pipe leaking at the v band though. Had a few turns left to hold the wastegate fully shut. Brought the boost up to about 5.5psi but that’s all she had. Still smoking enough to assure me there’s plenty fuel, egts back that up. Compressor is definitely louder and boost comes in sooner but there’s an odd sound coming from what sounds like the turbine. Could I have done something when clocking it? I didn’t loosen the bolts more than a 1/4 turn

You have the o-ring on from the turbo pedestal to the intake? It seals the spot where the factory location of the cdr was.

It was on when I installed the pedestal, hope it didn’t move

Sounds like a leak on the exhaust side of maybe some wheel contact, seems to be related to turbo speed.

Well it’s still running open down pipe, I haven’t taken it to the exhaust shop yet. That was my thought, something on the turbine side was off. I think I can distinguish 2 different sounds, the compressor is faint, then the sound you can hear in the video. Could anything have happened when I turned it to get everything to line up? I just barely loosened the bolts enough for it to turn and they are all tight now.

Maybe a leak on that line going to the boost gauge? I can't listen in 3-D from a video, but it seems to loud and crisp a sound to be coming from outside the cab. Then again, I've never heard what my truck would sound like if I drove it down the road with an open downpipe.

It’s definitely something in the turbo and not in the cab, it’s just that loud
