Hub centric or lug centric?

My axles are from ‘88 and ‘91 on my f350 and I’m trying to find out if they are lug or hub centric. I thought ford switched some time in the 80’s as these have the flat lug nuts but from what I can find online, it’s showing it was in ‘98 when they went metric. Can someone please enlighten me on this!

The Dana 60 I have on my '86 F250 is lug centered. It had (and still has) tapered lug nuts. The donor was a '91 F350 single rear axle. I don't recall any truck axles being hub centric on Fords of that era.

Depends on what your wheels have. My dually is hub centric with the flat washer lug nuts. My F250 is lug centric.

Are all duallys hub centric? The reason I’m asking is I’m trying to get some wheel spacers for mine so I can run 315/75r16s.

If it's 8X6.5" it's lug-centric, or more properly lug-and-hub-centric. The metric ('99+) trucks are hub-centric.

Here’s more differences lol! On my DRW rims from ‘85 they are both hub and lug centric and on my ‘88 and ‘91 DRW rims they are hub centric but the wheel spacers I’m finding that say they fit this model are lug centric. Can I use hub centric ones that are for a dodge or something?

It depends on your WHEELS. Lug centric needs the cone shape on the lug nut. You CANNOT use those nuts if the wheels don't have the bevel cut in them for the lug nuts to seat. They will fit but will not last. I don't know the exact specifics. My dually with the washer nuts has a regular drilled hole for the lugs. If you look at most car wheels or the wheels on my F250 you'll see the hole has a bevel to it and you need the nuts with the bevel on them.

Besides, the bore for the hub is different between dodge, ford, and gm. I believe Ford has the largest hubs so the others won't seat properly on Ford trucks.

Many axles can use both hub centric or lug centric wheels. Aftermarket wheels for the 99+ Superduty (8x170mm) are often lug centric. Just a matter of using the correct lugnuts.

Bricknose/OBS fords are 4.88" hub pilot; flanged nuts.

94+ Dodge is a 4.77" hub pilot; flanged nuts.

Chevy used 4.60" hub pilot wheels; clamping ring (has tapered seats), plus 90º tapered nuts. (flatter angle than the usual 60º nuts.)

FWIW, 'coined' wheels are not hub piloted.... Dodge ran them setup through '93. I think Ford ditched it by the '80's. These use flanged lug nuts too. These rear diffs are tough to use any other style wheel on because the hub is rebated (smaller) at the WMS than at the major OD (i.e. axle flange).

So I ordered a set of Fred’s spacers. The cost a littler more than I was expecting but they were extremely courteous when I talked to them on the phone. Looking forward to receiving them soon!
