Hey guys I just picked up a replacement tcase for my 94 idit w/zf-5 speed 4x4. This morning I removed my driveshafts and disconnected the tcase shift linkage. So I started taking the bolts out of the tcase on top. First one came out easy then I moved to the driver side top one close to the tcase linkage 3 hours later I’m still trying to get this bolt out. It looks like it’s about rounded off and I can’t get a socket and ratchet in there just a box wrench. If anyone has advice I would appreciate it!

If you have it, a spline drive wrench or socket is perfect for this. Don"t know if you have a Lowe's or Home Depot near you but they should have them or try Amazon. Good Luck!!

Get a 6 point wrench. Once you get it broke loose, a ratcheting wrench is real handy.

You may have to remove the transmission crossmemeber. The you can lower the whole thing down a little bit with a jack. That way, you can get to the bolt easier and maybe get a pair of Vise Grips on it.

Sometimes bolts screwed into aluminum need a “shock” to break loose. I like to use a drift punch, hopefully brass, to smack the bolt head good and hard like I was trying to break it off. One or two sharp hits not a lot of pecks......
