Lift pump output olive or o-ring?

I seem to have a minor leak at my lift pump. I already replaced the short hose that clamps on the pump's input last year and it doesn't seem to becoming from there. There is no fuel clinging to the lowest point of that hose. The leak appears to be originating at the hard line output that threads into the pump since the residual fuel is clinging onto the lift pump itself, very close to that connection.

Does it use an olive or an o-ring to seal? Or is it flared with no added seal?

It's flared. I had the same problem. I bought an adapter from the correct flare fitting to a hose barb and installed it with liberal thread sealer, then put a small piece of rubber hose from it over the line. No leaks since.

It's a new(er) leak and I haven't touched the lift pump in about 9-10 months since I replaced the suppl hose, so it's odd. It could be the clamped connection on the pump I suppose, but the location of the wetness makes me think otherwise. Does the connection sometimes work loose?

That I couldn't say, although I wouldn't think so. My leak was fresh on a new pump.

My cheap parts store pump only lasted a few months before it started leaking all over.

It's possible it's a newer pump. Probably one of the only newer parts from before I got it. It doesn't have the "35 year old metal" look to it.

Wow how can you find a leak with all that grease and gunk. Give it a cleaning and you might find your problem. But I am rooting for you.lol.

I just noticed the leak today by a few drips on the ground under it. I'll clean it up some in a few days before I drive it again.

I would look real close higher up on that pump......looks washed clean up there, and fuel drips hanging on the inlet and outlet of the pump.

It's pretty hard to see higher up on it. In regards to it being on the inlet, that's the direction it blows when driving. Outlet is bumper side and inlet is transmission side.

Hate to admit it but mine's not much better  I'm working on it as I fix stuff though. You should have seen the valley pan when I got it. Looked like a trash can.

Yeah but I notice the inlet looks clean and the outlet looks dirty. I'm wondering if it's dripping down from up top. Very hard to tell. Is the alternator hard to pull on the vans too? It's just the easiest way to see down on the fuel pump. I know vans are terrible to work on.

I probably wiped down the inlet area back in March or April when I replaced the hose.

A view down with the alternator pulled. The vac pump still blocks the view.

Hm, its actually kind of hard to tell if it's diesel or (Zerex G-05 gold) coolant. I checked the heater hoses earlier (all new a year ago) but see nothing wrong, no wetness on any connections. It could be the thermostat housing, it was off a few months ago, but I never saw drips under that area until today, and I eyeball the ground for drips almost everytime I pass in front of it. The overflow tank looks to be fine at the cold line after sitting over 24hrs. The radiator is full when I took off the cap. I tried using a white paper towel to dab it to check the color but its hard to tell with just a couple drops. Yeah it looks gold in the pic as it clings to the pump, but the metal is gold in color and I had to use the flash to take the pic which gives a yelllowish hue.

How about no. It's filthy gritty under there.

It really does look gold on a paper towel but feels oily like diesel. Hard to tell by the scent. It previously had a fuel leak from the inlet side so residue could still be there from that.

I shined in a light from up top and the top of the pump looks dry on the half I can see. Filthy, but dry. I see no moisture above the lift pump on the egine, as it might if coolant is running down from the thermostat housing gasket. It's possible a tiny drip is making it's way down though.

I don't have a good work light right now so it's hard to in there to be honest.

I felt around the upper radiator hose where it connects to the thermostat housing and it's dry on the outer edge from the clamp, so no leak there.

It's a mystery for sure. I guess I will just keep an eye on it for now. I will check it immediately after I drive it on the highway again when the thermostat has a possible chance to open, so whatever it is that's leaking doesn't have any time to dry up.
