Howdy, just found this forum and seemed like a good one to join. I bought a clapped out shippin' crate with a 12 valve for way too much money, and frankly I'm tired of fixing it weekly, so it's going up for sale soon. Figured I'd join a forum that covers more than just dodge trucks so I can get a better idea of what to buy next once I sell it. I'm leaning towards a 6.9 idi instead, partially because my family has had a ton of luck with the blue oval, and also because I'm a big fan of simplicity and affordable replacement parts, but we'll see. Anyhow, looking forward to learning from y'all.

What's wrong with it? I'm genuinely curious as 12v are considered reliable, indestructible, runs forever, 350k "barely broken in" etc

@sebatidian

Well, where to start...haha

As of last week, it's broken down in the front yard with an electrical issue causing the batteries to die. Before that, I had to rig up a way to tame the excessive blow-by using a vent on the oil fill, as it was ejecting all the oil from the crankcase vent. Before that, the thermostat and water pump broke at the same time. Before that, the tappet gasket blew, which was a $1,000 repair in which the mechanic broke the injector pump on accident (which they replaced with another p7100 from a school bus for free). I've lost wheel bearings, fuel shutoff relay fuses, power steering lines, my entire exhaust pipe (several times), and numerous other small things. All these with less than 240k miles on it. AAA towing has been my best friend during the single year I've owned it.
To say the least, I'm not a dodge fan anymore.

Now of course, being an old truck I can't imagine it not having any repairs, but compared to the fords in the family, it's a bit excessive. My mother's '99 expedition has only needed gas, oil, plugs, and coils since she drove it off the lot.
