I’ve been searching here and online and while I’ve found talk of expected oil pressure, I’ve not found actual documentation, proof.

The subject came up in a discussion in having and one or two people think I’m crazy and are saying under 20psi oil pressure hot is bad.

Does anyone have a link or verbatim from a manual?

To clarify I’m 10psi or so hot at low idle, in-line with what I expect.

I've never actually tested mine but the needle kinda floats around the N on the idiot gauge.

I can't verify but mine always reads 25 hot idle and 48 under load on several different manual guages. And ensuring the line is full of oil made no difference on any of them. As I am sure this is 100% incorrect due to reading 10-11 psi is normal, I'm not sure we're u would find that literature. I'm sure someone here will post up a manual of sorts. Mayby a Chilton or Haynes manual?

I read 10 at idle and around 50-60 cruising the highway. IIRC someone on here stated anything above 10psi is good and will of course increase with rpm.

To add from FTE:

According to the 1984 Ford Truck Shop Manual, the 6.9L engine specs are:

Curb idle: 10 psi. @ 2200 RPM: 40 - 60 psi

That's about what the aftermarket mechanical gauge a past owner installed on my F250 reads.

Sounds fine to me. A general rule of thumb is 10 PSI for every 1000 RPM the engine is turning. Since your idle speed should be well under 1000 RPM, 10 PSI at a hot idle is just fine on any truck engine, gas or diesel.

Mine doesn't work, I'm still trying to wrap my head around installing my mechanical oil pressure gauge
