Only about 10k. It sits a lot so it could be something like a sticky lifter. I dunno. I’ll start through it when I have time.

I think the warranty is up. It was 3 years. Pretty sure I’m past that unfortunately.

I know all engines are essentially just air pumps. But I gotta say that is one unique way to get it to move more air!

So when my 6.9 leaked all the fuel in the crankcase after the IP failed, I had a tick when I put my new IP and injectors on. I was fearing my oil thinned out and I ruined something and had so much fuel over the top of the engine from changing everything over I didn't see my one injector leaking past the body of the injector up from the threads. Injector ended up being defective and was causing my tick.

I found it by wiring a toggle to the cold advance, and turning that on while going down the road "making" the truck tick and throwing it to switch the timing and it really made my knock better when I turned it on. Then I started looking the engine over better after drying it up and found my culprit.

I guess it's just another version of shutting the truck off going down the road, I had already tried my weird method before someone suggested that on here. Not sure if my test "really" works, but man I still remember the sound going away when I turned the cold advance on and my engine I though I ruined turned out to be fine. 20k miles later now and it's still chugging along.

well im sure your familiar with my issues.... on my truck lol.

defiantly check the cooling system pressure. it would probably be obvious tho cause coolant would be leaking im sure. the noise i have started to happen slowly and kept getting worse. truck sat for a while and when i started driving it again it just kept pushing coolant out. still made the rally tho lol.

i do belive some valve guides are worn which is probably the tick and beats me how a bad HG can tick.

Making it worse when I step on it makes me wonder if the advance in the pump is exacerbating an injector. I dunno but we will find out. I may toss some atf to it just to see what it does if I don’t fine an exhaust leak. What I don’t want is to be half way to NH with the camper and my block ends up looking like Brian’s.

Check the position of the foam insulator on the throttle cable. If it is worn thru to the cable cover or cable cover is laying against the rearmost, driver's side injector feed line (#8), it will make a tick that goes with rpm of engine. The cable insulator is for guarding against this.

Take a piece of regular fuel hose old garden hose any soft tubing you have cut it long enough to be able to put one end in your ear and then run it over your exhaust manifold you will be able to hear the leak if there is one Learned this trick from an old mechanic years ago and it has helped me many times locate exhaust leaks
