Well then, ill deffinetly have to put that on my list. In my 6.2 it was in the passenger manifold/turbo pedistol. And I didnt even think about it when I replaced the probe, just assumed it was correct being it appears to have a flat spot in the casting as if that's where it was supposed to be.

Soaked all the pistons to remove all the carbon buildup, they all look perfect except for #6 which has a small amount of wear likely from a bad injector.

Cleaned all the threads in perpetration for the studs to go in, popped out the coolant plugs, then cleaned off the passenger side block for painting

Passenger side is ready for a head, just got to paint the rest of the block and get the other studs in, then on to head work.

That looks nice. Do you have a hot tank in the shop? Did you dis-assemble and re-assemble, or just dunk the whole thing?

Wish I had a big enough hot tank to dunk an empty block in but I don’t have one here yet, I’ve got a couple parts cleaners, some heated ultrasonic cleaners for the fuel parts, a 40” blasting cabinet, a roll around 20lbs sand blaster and an old 11hp pressure washer. That handles all the fuel system, turbo, engine cleaning and frame prep that I do here, but a big hot tank or one of those rotisserie parts washing cabinets would be really nice for cleaning the heads.

The bottom end is untouched, I did pull the lifters and cleaned out the lifter valley of some built up sludge and inspect for anything out of place there. The outside of the block was pressure washed and degreased when it still had the intake on it, which got about 60% of grease. Parts like the oil cooler accessories and engine mounts I pulled off to separately clean and prep for paint, but the outside of the block I just cleaned with a razor blade, brass polishing wheel, scotch bright and acetone. I did two thick coats that I will repeat on the opposite side then do a final coat and a protective clear coat to keep any chemicals from discoloring the paint.

Block is all painted and cleared, all the studs are in ready for the heads. Ended up finding a good bit of play in the water pump so replaced it with a gates pump I had on hand.

Looking great Wes! A little surprised about that pump as it was replaced with a Ford unit not that many miles ago although it’s definitely been a few years. Appreciate all your attention to detail since I wouldn’t want to have to pull it any time soon.

Some of those Ford installed parts were sold with a pretty good warranty. I knew of a few sets on injectors and injector pumps that had a lifetime warranty on them. Worth checking into.

Finished the longblock up tonight, just letting everything cure inside overnight since we had a cold front come in. Heres the first head stripped, valves and ports cleaned up, 6.9 valve seals installed, valve seats checked and lapped, springs and retainers checked and cleaned, valves reinstalled and sprayed.

After the driver side cured I set it on the engine while I did everything to the opposite head, then blasted all the corrosion and oil buildup out of the intake and sprayed it so it will be ready to go on in the morning. Hoping to have a running engine this weekend, picked up the ceramic coated piping today, so that will be ready to go on soon.

Looking good. Just an observation of mine though. When I was working on these for a living around your age, all of this wasn't too bad for me to do. Now that I'm about 20 or so years older than you, it's not as easy for me to install the heads over the studs. I can still lift them up to deck height alright, but picking them up enough higher to put them over the studs is a big effort for me by myself.:( YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!LOL

Thanks for the update Wes. Every time I see a new post update, I get more excited to drive this beast again. I may have to take the travel trailer camping in the middle of January just to see the huge difference in performance while towing [emoji12]! Fingers crossed on seeing it run this weekend.
