I'm no expert, but I don't think that's right. She is running a bit too retarded it seems.
So I set it to about the same distance, but advanced.... and the smoke is gone!
Guys, I cannot believe it was that frigging easy!
I just ordered a water pump (could move the fan side to side and it has a drip), and am going to the parts yard this weekend for all the body parts.
Again, thanks for all the input guys, and a special thanks to Selahdoor!
I didn't even bother with a compression test, and will do one when I eventually put in a new set of injectors.

You must be registered for see images attach

Good work!
When it's time for the injectors, make sure that you buy from one of the known quality vendors - Wes, Russ, Mel or Justin.

I don't understand the confusion. Who would read "turn the injector pump up", and think "retard the timing'?
I read it, and thought you wanted him to increase the fuel, and not change the timing at all.

Saying something like ``tilt the top of the pump toward the driver side to advance the timing'' might be clearest.

You have all kinds of good info here to play with. My '94 idi 7.3 turbo in a crew cab dually is in the process of a new engine from Promar. Basic 7.3 non turbo is about $3500 I believe. Add a turbo, then a trans with a transfer case and the numbers add up real fast.

Very good example! I agree.

I do understand all this, and the admonitions above.

But I said to turn it up by the thickness of a dime.

Every time I have ever heard anyone talk about turning up the timing, they have used the reference, of a thickness of a dime.

Had I been talking about turning up the fuel, I would have said: Turn it up by one flat.

The flat is the reference most common to hear when talking about turning up the fuel.

I just don't think this should have been as confusing as it was made out to be.

If it actually WAS confusing, I would think that would be caused less by what I did or did not say, and more because of lack of attention to what I actually said. Because what I said contained enough information to figure it out, if you paid attention to the full statement. IE, Dime. Not Flat.

Personally, I will be trying to remember to be more clear about what I am talking about, in the future. Because when it comes to reading, and paying attention... It is what it is... And I myself have been bit by the inattention bug too many times to count.

So this entire thing would have been made easier, if I had included one more word. Timing. LOL Wouldn't have laid me out flat, nor cost me one dime! :D

Timing would have been a great keyword to add.

Writing plan sets to go out to bid has gotten me into the habit of looking for ways to be unmistakably clear. I try to use enough words that my meaning can't be mistaken, few enough words that it isn't lost.

Sometimes, I try to make sure that what I say (or write) is pretty clear to everyone including those of us who don't have a lot of mechanical inclination. The down side is that I usually feel that I'm just prattling on. Plus I don't want to sound like I'm talking down to someone who doesn't know as much as some others do. Honestly, I don't know where that line is at, but I do try not to cross it. We're all here to learn. Me included. Every time that I've thought I've seen it all, I get educated on that fact pretty quickly. Sometimes, I feel that I want a T-shirt like this.|stupid
