I registered mainly to say "thank you" to all y'all. I've been reading threads here for a couple of months, and you saved my new (old) truck.

I bought a 1993 F250 7.3 naturally-aspirated at the end of September. I had never owned a diesel vehicle, but now I am in love. Anyway, at the dealership and during a vigorous test drive there were, of course, NO problems. And, naturally, as soon as I got her home she started to fall apart. Diesel pouring out of everywhere.

The mechanical lift pump was shot, but y'all taught me about replacing it with an electric one. Awesome! But I installed the cover plate upside down...so oil went everywhere. I only figured that out because someone here mentioned having made that mistake, also.

Then I found more leaks: The fuel filter heater element plug, the torque screw, injection lines, the entire fuel return system. I learned how to fix it all right here.

I stripped the torque screw and experienced my first, and God willing, my only runaway. I had to cut the new rubber fuel line to stop that. I saw a suggestion about installing a shutoff valve, so I did.

I figured stripping the torque screw had introduced metal shavings into the IP, and fortunately someone here had written about how to remove the top of the IP, and about using ATF to clean it. Sure enough, there were metal shavings in the IP, but I filled it with ATF and used a 30cc syringe and tube to suction it out over and over until it was clear, then I crossed my fingers and started the truck, and the IP worked and didn't destroy my new rebuilt injectors.

I can see diesel ownership is an adventure, but I'm loving it so far. Thanks to everyone. Looking forward to many years here.

Welcome

Good thinking on cutting the fuel line. You have any pics of your shutoff you added?
