What's the best way to quiet down an IDI with out restriction on the exhaust. My 7.3 is currently straight piped and dumps out in front of the rear tire on the passenger side. The noise I hear coming from the exhaust drowns out everything including the rumble of the engine. It's too much to handle. Looking for ideas on non-restrictive mufflers people have success with on the idis. Turbo is in its future

I'm no pro, but ive read that running the 2 pipes from each side into a 3" collector and then 1 single 3" into a straight through muffler works well for sound and performance.

The turbo quieted mine down more than any muffler ever did. Do what u wish, but u may have the issue solved already this spring before u drop in necessary cash into an issue that may already be covered in your future plans. Just my opinion.

My son Jon put a 4 inch flowmaster muffler. Then we used a Powerstroke tailpipe 3.5 inch. NA it was much quieter than a faster, but once I turboed it it was perfect. After about 50k miles the muffler went bad. Next up is a 3 inch Flowmaster with the same power stroke tail. Let you know in a couple months.

put both pipes into a 4" nelson straight through short muffler, then worry about where to dump it. No restriction and a lot less noise. had 2.5" straights to shotguns out of my 89 , was way too loud! go to a heavy truck parts place and get them to let you look through the Nelson Catalogue. its there and I got mine for under $100 Canadian about 3 yrs ago. they won't want to order it because they want to sell you what they have in stock. you can turn down it for now and worry about a tail later. have fun
