Does the CDR blowby need filtering?

The previous owner tore out the stock intake setup and used what looks like a plastic dryer hose to attach a "performance" air filter. This means my CDR just dumps all the blowby into the engine bay.

The smoke slowly wafts up my windshield and makes it so it need to clean it a ton, the air filter is caked in oil, and I'm sure lots of the oil build up in the engine bay is caused by this... I'm sick of it.

I'm hoping to fix the intake and get a new filter by using something like this: https://www.airaid.com/accessories/100-400-universal-tube

But if the CDR is just going to oil up the new filter... Why bother?

Was thinking of drilling a hole into the side of those tubes and just dumping the CDR blowby into it. Is that smart? Is there any sort of filtering I should do (like air or oil catch can)?

Hopefully someone here knows a bit of what I might need to do :)

Hmm... It definitely loots like a CDR? If it's not, what is it and why does it smoke like one?

That's the CDR. Before the po installed the "hotrod" intake, it had a hose going to the stock air box. Take some time to look at the tech articles, you'll learn a lot about the idi/idit engines.

Where are said tech articles? My biggest issue with this truck is that someone butchered it and I cant find easy access to what it should look like... If you know something that can address that, I'd be quite happy.

That is a CDR and normally on a factory turbo setup , which this looks like being it has the turbo value cover, there would be a hose on that connected to the upper air filter housing which has been removed.

They're at the top of the page on this forum. The search function can provide as much information as you'd like as well.

I know about search. I've tried and it doesn't work too well if you aren't sure what you are asking. Like all search functions...

Thanks for the tip on the tech articles. Looked over them and I will likely be looking at them often :)

Similar system on my old 6.2l diesel. I deleted it and ran the breather hose directly into the intake. No catch can... because I recycle. LOL

Cummins just has a road-draft tube.

Banks makes an adapter that bolts to the front of the motor where the access plate is for the IP cover. It makes running a RDT (road draft tube) easy. I ran mine up and over my AC compressor then down the fire wall to just below the leaf spring. No more oily issue under hood or in my intake.

To be fair.... Once the truck is warm, it appears it could be on fire if you didnt know what was going on.

I wasn't suggesting that you don't ask questions! Even stupid question are welcome here (ask me how I knowo_O) Just saying that there's so much that's been covered, with a bit of persistence, you can find it...

Just simply run a hose from the outlet of that CDR, to that intake ducting. You might have to get creative to plumb it in there nice but sometimes that just how it goes.

Once its done, its done; and you won't have any of those crankcase gases all over the place. Which these engines have a lot of

Use this to search for info on this forum...

https://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.oilburners.net

It uses google to search only this forum.

I put in a road draft tube instead.

I am considering putting an oil catch can on it, though, in an attempt to maybe cut down on some of that smoke when I am sitting still.
