One part I know exactly what it is, just cannot find it, the other part I am not completely clear as to what I would be looking for. The first part is the fuel preheater that goes through the top of the filter housing. I have been told the frequently leak, and mine is. I have also been told they are easy to find but Ford and International cannot seem to find me a part number.

The second mystery part threads into the tower in the lifter gallery, right in the middle of the valley pan just behind the crankcase vent. Mine is a 1988 F-350 with a1989 engine.

Nice paint scheme. Most people just do away with the fuel heater since they really don't much. They try to heat the fuel from the top down, kind of backward. You could try to replace the o-ring that goes onto the heater. You could also just install a plug in the mounting hole. It takes a 1/2" NPT pipe plug (I believe). I'm going to do this myself. The bolt you need is special. I'm not sure if it's still being made. Try to give Thewespaul a PM. He may have one sitting around. Also, before I forget, welcome to the forum.

Thank you? I wasn’t sure on the heater, the hole did not look round, but I have not torn into that part yet. Thanks on the paint, the truck is mostly blacked out wit red shock boots and bushings. Without a power plant, the rest of the truck is worthless though.

Many people have threaded the heater for 1/2" npt threads. Me, I'd TIG weld it shut.

Aren't you asking for trouble to put the engine together without the IP drive gear in place?

While it may appear assembled, it was merely mocked up for painting and then bolt inventory as I am relaxing hardware in some areas as I go. The fit pump housing just got cleaned and painted and the pump and injectors are going to be rebuilt. I wanted to keep the dirt out in the mean time.

I figured you knew what you were doing, but wanted to point it out just in case, and for posterity.

Sounds like the engine is in good hands.

Well, I do appreciate that, but I have mostly done small engines and antique gasoline engines with a few small Diesel engines thrown in. First big diesel I have played with.

I just replace the o-rings on the fuel heater. Even if the fuel heater doesn't work well it's super easy to just put O-rings on it VS threading the housing for a plug.

You got a picture of the deal in the valley? Almost sounds like the stand for the oil pressure sensor.

I prefer to delete the stock fuel filter all together, and putting it somewhere where its not going to ****** my engine everytime I gotta mess with it...
food for thought.

I will get the picture of the valley pan today, the oil pressure sensor is a 1/4 not and is behind the valley tray. This 1/2 npt?!? And is threaded in to open block, not an oil gallery.

That rear one is the "valley drain." Goes through to behind the flywheel. Keeps fluid from collecting in the valley.
It's a 3/8" drive hollow bolt.
