Okay this is a question for the experienced engine pullers.

I am pulling a 7.3 connected to a C6 and a 7.3 connected to ZF5 now the catch. I am doing this at a shop without any tools other than what I bring with me. What do I need to make sure I have. At my shop I have darn close to anything I could ever need but it will be a 10 mile drive to go get that tool I don't have.

I will have all my basics.
Cordless electric 1/2 impact
ratchets and wrenches and sockets
hammers of varying size
fan clutch wrenches
pry bars
sawzall
drill
2 ton engine lift
tape, rags,
band aids

I guess I was more so trying to ask if I need anything special. Odd size sockets or wrenches needed?

It sounds like you pretty well have it covered. I know guys who would pull it out of a donor with a torch and wire cutters. I've seen them do it before (not to an IDI).

I have removed a few engine's and drivelines in that fasion. I am planning on using the donor vehicles under hood wiring harness because it looks in good shape and mine is crap.

I am removing the radiator support and perhaps the whole front clip depending on how I feel.

I guess here is another point of view, how hard would it be (if this is even a option), to bring the other truck to your shop? Then you have all your tools and a familiar place to work?

It would be easy to bring the other truck to my shop. But my shop has no room for it so it would be sitting on the street. Both truck are at the other location now and I will just load up enough tools to get it done.

If you have the time, you could look closely at your IDI truck and see what it would take to pull the engine. That way, you could double check yourself.

If seperating the engine and trans in the truck I like 3 1/2 ft of good stout 1/2 drive extensions and a 1/2 drive 3/4 impact flex socket for the top 4 bell housing bolts. Long ratchet or breaker of course, impact won’t work with that much extension. On an IDI everything that threads into the block is std. US thread. Virtually every accessory or body bolt is metric.

I will start pulling the front end off the donor truck tomorrow. When I get everything opened up I will take a good look at what will be required. And also spray everything with PB.

Good to know about the standard and metric on the truck.

Trans crossmember to frame is 18mm and 15mm bolt/nut and a real time consuming PITA. Box end wrenches there for sure. Pull starter motor and oil filter. Top bolt on starter is another PITA, need extension to attack from the front.

Save the core support if not rusted out.
